Alyssa cocked her head, momentarily confused. "Preference?" She thought a moment, then chuckled. "Oh, you mean which name I prefer? Well, I never thought of it that much, really. The moment word got round to that dumb Pollicle, he teased me about it nonstop. So I called myself Alyssa, refusing to answer to the other name. And that's what kinda stuck, though I imagine the Jellicles might be a bit nicer about it even if they knew - or at least have the decency not to laugh at it openly. But now that I think of it... It'd make a great Alias if I ever needed to go under cover!" She was mainly joking, but she did like to imagine the scene if she ever, say, had to infiltrate Macavity's gang... Tweetie-Bird, the fierce henchcat... Everyone would laugh for a while, but then she could just pretend to be crazy and they'd eventually ignore her and then they wouldn't notice when she led a whole group of Jellicles in and... Shaking her head, she came back to the conversation. "Oh - so, um, you won't tell anyone about it, right? I wanna keep it in my arsenal of possible useful things to use in the event of some disaster or emergency until now unforeseen." Even with her mostly cheerful, carefree outlook on things, living here had opened her eyes to the fact that there were dangers out there that one should always be prepared for. No need to obsess or be all boring and serious all the time because of it...but one should prepare. Besides, inventing aliases and fake rescue plans was entertaining.

Keiiji cracked his neck in attempt to relieve tension there. His ears were still round and opened as he listened to her rant. A name was a name, and he did understand why some cats he's met were embarrassed by their names, but he himself did see the embarrassment. You were who you were, a name didn't change that. "So I assume you wish to be called Alyssa then?" His tail curled from where it rested, up and down. At her inquiry, his serious tone came through in full force. "I won't. Unless someone pays me to tell them." With his serious voice, he doubted that she would have known he had been joking. Considering nothing changed on his face.

Alyssa frowned slightly. "So what you do depends on who pays you the most?" She wasn't sure how she felt about that. She'd heard of people who did things for money, in movies, what were they called...bounty hunters. "Doesn't sound like a fun life to me. Money's overrated. Humans fight about it all the time and steal it from each other and kill each other and--for what? A few shiny things and pieces of paper? You can't even eat 'em." She shook her head. "But whatever floats your boat, I guess." Then she brightened. "Anyway, no one else even knows I have another name, so I don't see why they'd even ask you."

Keiiji took her expected response with grace. It really didn't phase him much but his head did do a slight head tilt. His small sign to express confusion. "And what use would I have for human money?" She was slightly amusing to him. He'd never seen another cat ramble on the way she did. He wondered if she had the habit of putting her proverbial foot in her own proverbial mouth. "There are other forms of payment, Aly. Food, information, trinkets to barter with, essentials." He listed a few things. However, he finally added on,"I was joking...anyhow."

Alyssa pursed her lips, thinking this over. "Well, I'm glad to hear that," she said finally, then giggled. "You sure had me going for a minute! That makes a lot more sense though. About paying in things besides money, I mean. Like you said, human money is pretty useless." She tried to think of what a cat could do if he had human money. The idea made her laugh again. "Like, what if you just waltzed into a shop one day and started piling goods on the counter and held out a wad of cash, what would the shopkeeper do?"

Using a paw to run through his mane. He scrubbed through it so it was no longer falling into his face, and regained some of its fluffiness. He wasn't exactly bored, but the topic of conversation was drifting in a direction that was pointless. Being pragmatic, the questioned she posed seemed like a what if scenario that he felt unnecessary to linger on. "I don't interact with humans. My..." His voice caught in his throat and his eyes opened slowly and drifted away from the queen. His life before the junkyard was...dark and complicated. So instead of continuing his train of thought, he smoothly changed the subject. "What do you think they'd do? Have you tried that in the past?"

Alyssa glanced sideways at him, curious. What had he been about to say? She wondered why he didn't interact with humans. Sure, some where jerks, but there were nice ones too - like her own humans had been. She didn't see why anyone would pass up a chance at a free meal or some love and cuddles. Not all cats were good either - just look at Macavity and the henches - but did that mean you decided not to go near any cats? Sounded ridiculous to her. Aly was about to pursue the subject further, but then Keiiji quickly asked another question, and she rushed to keep up. "Well, ... No, as a matter of fact. I've never touched money in my life. Or set paw in a store." She thought about what would happen if she ever tried it, and the idea made her chuckle. "I'm guessing it'd go something like: 'Scram! Shoo! Out! Go home!' Then they'd probably back me into a cupboard somewhere and call my human and read her a long lecture on pet care." She thoughtfully stroked the license tag on the collar that she still wore. "Come to think of it, I could probably just go up to any human now and they'd be able to track down my human for me. But I'm having way too much fun here to give it up."

Keiiji was glad that she had changed with the subject. Though the only thing ti signal the change in his mood was a small flip of his tail, more subtle in action, and hardly noticeable. He wondered if she was a queen with a one track mind. If so, then he never needed to worry about her ever dropping her nose into his personal business, and his personal life. "Never been in a store? Pity." Just because his life had kept him out of the reach of humans, it didn't keep him out of their world. He has stolen blankets and other essentials before. Jobs given to him. One he believed was intended for the supplies to reach stray cats that had nothing; to help them through another harsh winter. But he never really allowed himself to find out the reasons behind any of his jobs, he just did them. His eyes blinked and almost; almost showed his disbelief at her words. "This is fun? Sitting here...talking?" To each their own, he supposed, but he didn't find this fun. And what was fun anyway? "We could always break into a store. Its dusk, most shops are closing for the night. Could give you the tour you never had before." Once again, it was tough to figure out if he was serious, or joking.

Alyssa shook her head. She hadn't been clear, she guessed. "No, no, not just sitting here talking - I mean, sure it's fun, but not like, super-duper-this-is-the-deciding-factor-of-my-life fun. What I actually meant was, the Jellicles and the Junkyard in general. Doing whatever you want. Catching your own breakfast or digging it up somewhere. Finding unexpected treasures in a pile of trash. Having a huge family to hangout with, or just going off by yourself if you want." Not very good at summarizing her ideas and thoughts, she finally just made a big sweep of her paw as if trying to encompass the entire area. "Just...generally living here. Everything." She blinked at his mention of breaking into a store. That did sound like an interesting adventure... "Who are you, Mungojerrie?" she joked. "That sounds kinda fun," she added. Her eyes glimmered, thinking about what cool things and food they might find in the shops. Humans always had more than they knew what to do with anyway, right? Before she got too excited, though, she remembered that when he'd just been joking a moment ago, she hadn't been able to tell. "Wait, are you serious or what?"

With a stretch, Keiiji sat up, and put his chin onto the back of his paw. With smooth movements, he checked the knot of the cloth tied around his forehead to make sure it was still tight enough not to show the hideous scars on either side of his temples. He unconsciously rubbed at the sides of his head while Alyssa yammered on. Perhaps Keiiji was just too far gone. For he hadn't really seen the joys and wonders of living in the junkyard. It was just a different setting to where he use to live. The only difference he felt, was he no longer had to watch his back every second of the day for a knife or a betrayal that could cut into him just as sharply as any knife.
His paws finally dropped from the sides of his head and he gave her a slow look over. "We look nothing alike." Was his simple reply to a joke he knew was a joke. Still it was one of those, at least for him, awkward jokes. Being compared to Mungojerrie? He had no real ill against the tiger tabby, but he rarely was compared to others. With a roll of his shoulders, his gaze landed away from Alyssa. "Serious. So, do you want to?"

Alyssa stared at Keiiji for a long moment. So he was truly offering to take her on a crazy adventure? She was excited beyond belief. Though also, she had to admit, slightly "weirded-out," to use one of her pet expressions from back home. She knew next to nothing about this tom. Suppose he was secretly some murderer? Or, a bit less serious, what if he was one of those who believed in "hazing" for new tribe-members, and planned to shut her up in some shop and leave her there? ... But these anxieties dissipated in an instant. What the heck. Of course she was going to jump at the chance to go have some fun! And besides, she thought with all the overconfidence of a sheltered, inexperienced queen, if this dude did turn out to be a creep, she could probably take him down easily. "Yeah, I want to!" she answered finally. "Lead the way!"

Keiiji stood up, before Alyssa had even agreed. He was going to go regardless, but another accompanying him-especially a queen-wouldn't look suspicious while he was breaking into a shop(mainly because a first glance would look like a couple just walking or trying to find some intimate privacy), and it gave her the adventure she desired. At her exclamation, he walked down the steps from the tire, his full coverings now exposed fully, as he turned to her. "Any shop in particular that you would like to break into? Bakery, clothes...?"
((Sorry its short))

Alyssa had been rubbing her paws together in excitement, then stopped short when he mentioned clothes. "Clothes?" She cocked her head towards him with a quizzical look. "What the heck does a cat want with clothes? Except maybe pretty collars and...cool bandanas?" she added, noticing what seemed to be bandanas wrapped all over Keiiji. Some people had odd fashions. "But anyway, I like the sound of the bakery better." She licked her chops in anticipation, thinking of all the delicious smells and tastes they would find there.
((It's ok. Mine's rather short too. ^^))

((I'm just going to keep this thread here, while they go into the city. To reduce confusion. Or would you rather we start a new one there, or move this thread?))
Keiiji shrugged,"Not every cat can live with humans or in a community such as this. Clothes can be used just as well as blankets to combat the harsh weather. Even the jellicles have need of blankets during winters that are especially frigid." He paused before adding on,"And yes for fashion or practical purposes as well." Walking off, he began to head toward one of the holes in the junkyard, without using the front gates. "Follow me. We can cut through that path to one of the more obscure exits in the yard." He did give a discreet look back to make sure she was following him. "Do you have a sweet tooth?" He spoke, keeping conversation light, but keeping it up. Though he doubted he had to worry about any lengthy silences with her as a traveling companion.

((Leaving it here sounds good to me. Like you say, much less confusing ^^))
Alyssa paused momentarily to consider this. She had never experienced life apart from either humans or community. Even here, it was taking a little bit of getting used to; it was the closest to "sleeping outside" she'd ever come - and even then, she still generally slept in a den or a pipe or something. So far she hadn't needed a blanket, though she supposed she might need to get one when the winter came. "Hmm, hadn't thought of that," she said finally. "Maybe clothes would even be easier to manage than blankets - you could just put them on and wear them all through the cold season, then take them off when it gets warm again. I mean, sometimes the daytime can be chilly too, right? But it'd look kinda dumb to walk around wrapped in a blanket all day. Of course, maybe if you keep moving enough, you don't notice..." She turned to follow Keiiji as he showed her the exit. When he asked if she had a sweet tooth, she shrugged. "Don't know, really. I've only been able to sneak a few bites of cookie or candy once or twice when my human wasn't looking. She thought chocolate was bad for cats, but I think she had it confused with dogs. But the few tastes I've had make me interested to try more. And bakeries always smell so amazing. Ohh, I can't wait! How far is it?"
