Gilbert had passed by the group around Tugger, and not a one of them had glanced up and looked at him. He didn't expect them to acknowledge his presence, but when you hear someone pass you automatically look up. No one did. His ears folded downwards, it was one thing to be alone, but to be virtually invisible? He didn't know of a worse fate than that. He crunched down into a ball in the pipe. Being alone, he could truly let go of himself, to show his true miserable self. He wasn't suicidal, but he did wish for death to find him soon. Curled in a ball, his face hidden, he let some of the tears fall down his face.

((ooh I wanna RP with Gilby!)) Alyssa wandered around until she found a tom off by himself. Sheesh, he looked like he could use some cheering up. Aly went up to him, a big grin on her face. "Hello!! I'm Alyssa, I'm new here. What's your name?"

Gilbert jumped as far in the air as the pipe would allow him, and spun around. His fur was out, and he wiped the miserable look with his facade of smiles. Though his eyes did give him away, since they were still misty. "Oh...Um hey, I'm Gilbert." He held his paw out, for her to shake it. He knew about human costumes before coming to the yard, so did it without realizing it.

Alyssa grinned, and shook the proffered paw. "Did you live with humans, too?"

"Live with humans?"He awkwardly shook her paw before pulling away. "Sure, I guess you could say that. Aly, right?"

"Yeah, Alyssa, Aly, whatev," she grinned. "Well, I lived with humans for a long time, somewhere way across the ocean, called America. Then they took a trip here, and poof! I got left behind." She shook her head. "Stupid humans."

Needless to say, Gilbert was not used to others being so open with him. He was ever just the smallest bit, uncomfortable. "Oh. Well...I'm sorry about that. Must be tough, since I guess they were like a family to you. Did you know your real family?"

Alyssa frowned in thought. "Nope," she said finally. "Not that I can recall. I got adopted by humans when I was a kitten." She shrugged. "I don't really miss 'em. Freedom's lots more fun."

"If you manage to get the good part of freedom..." He shook his head quickly, to get long passed that comment, he wasn't about to open up to some queen he didn't know. "You enjoying the yard so far?"

"Yeah, it's great." Aly paused, frowning slightly. What did he mean, 'the good side of freedom'? "So far freedom's been great... I mean there were some nasty-looking cats about the streets, but they left me alone." Her eyes widened. "Why? Has bad stuff happened to you before?" A sensible cat would've known enough to let that pass, but Aly was...well, not that sensible.

Gilbert's ears slanted back immediately. He barely knew her, he wasn't going to give up that kind of information. Not only that, but he was trying to uphold his facade to look like he was alright. And so far his smile didn't falter. "Well, that's good that they left you alone." That responded to her, without having to answer her question, and he hoped that she didn't persist him about it.

"Yeah," said Alyssa, forgetting to be angry that he hadn't answered her question. "But there were also some cats who weren't so scary-looking, but when I tried to talk to them they just laughed at me. Maybe it's my accent. Do I talk weird?" Once it had been made clear that she wouldn't be leaving this place anytime soon, she'd figured she'd try to fit in with these London cats as much as possible. And to her, that included talking like them. Which consisted of her trying to pull off a very unconvincing English accent, made even more unconvincing when she still used 'American' terms. Which she did a lot.

"Well hoping you don't take this the wrong way, but yes you do." He ran a paw through his mane. "Why not just be yourself. You'd fit in more perfectly. Doesn't seem like that now, but I think you would." That was rich, here he was acting like everything was fine, wearing a mask to make others believe he was okay. And here he was giving out advice on being yourself. What a hypocrite he was.

Alyssa opened her mouth to speak, then closed it again with a sigh. "Okay, so maybe I should ditch the accent. It was real crappy anyway," she said, reverting back to full American.

Gilbert shrugged his shoulders,"It wasn't crappy...and you do sound...better." He gave her a warm smile. "I'm sorry if I was rude before. Welcome to the yard, Aly."
