Gender: Male
Age: Adult (early to mid twenties)
Tribe: Jellicle
Tribe Position:
Family: Uncle – Bustopher Jones (pending), Sister – Victoria(pending), Brother - Alonzo, Half Brother - Fangorn
Appearance: Mistoffelees is a lean and relatively short tom. His eyes are dark, and his face pale white. He is a solid black tuxedo tom with a white bib.
Human Appearance: Jared Leto
Personality: Much like his song, Misto is quiet, vague, and aloof. He has a knack for appearing in places you’d least expect him, and popping out of nowhere. One would think he had the power of teleportation; however, Mistoffelees is simply good at keeping quiet when he moves. He takes great pleasure in sneaking up on others, and it is apparent that Mistoffelees finds himself to be clever. He isn’t arrogant or vain, but Misto has great respect for himself, which he makes apparent in the most subtle of ways. For example, if he gets a compliment, instead of blushing and acting shocked, Misto will accept the compliment as if it doesn’t come as a surprise. It other words, he is self-assured. He isn’t lacking in confidence, and he doesn’t second guess himself. Mistoffelees has an “alpha’s” disposition, and makes it crystal clear that he can take care of himself.
Although social and very much present in yard’ life, no one really knows what Mistoffelees is thinking or feeling. He is very expressive and talkative, but he has an air of mystery about him. It is as if he is hiding something. There is just something about him that you can’t put your finger on, no matter how hard you try. Maybe it is his magic – maybe it is because he can seem overly emotional at times – either way, Misto is a hard fellow to fully understand. If compared to a book, he is a book that you can read and get hooked too, but will leave you guessing and wanting more when you finish the final chapter. It other words, he is the walking embodiment of a cliff-hanger -addictive, but unsettling.
Mistoffelees loves attention. He loves being in the spot light. He likes to feel wanted, and he adores praise. Granted, he isn’t the sort of tom to make overly flamboyant entrances, or to shout “look at me,” but he enjoys being acknowledged and given credit when credit is due. He is always eager to assist anyone in need, albeit his desire to assist isn’t so much out of the goodness of his heart, but rather for his own selfish need to be accredited for his willingness to help. Misto wants to be involved in whatever is going on, and while he isn’t the type to gossip, he likes to listen to gossip. If human, he’d make a fabulous private investigator – always present, watching, listening, and available.
Faults: While he’ll never admit he has faults, Mistoffelees has a dangerous temper. Dangerous, as in deadly. Misto has never killed anyone before, but he has come close to it - too close. He most definitely has the ability to kill, but every time he has come close to finishing someone off, someone stops him -typically Victoria or Alonzo. Even the Tugger has stepped in before to calm him down. Only a few can. Eventually, someday, (whether he’ll admit it or not) someone won’t be there to help him stop, and he’ll go too far.
The slightest thing can get him on edge, and if pushed the wrong way, Misto will see red. As mentioned below, his magic is his primary tool for self-defense. Being lean and somewhat short, he doesn’t have the muscle mass and height that most toms his age do, so he leans heavily on his magic. It is almost as if it is a reflex - as soon as his temper flares, electricity courses through his body and he becomes a walking taser. The only cats that have ever confronted him about his anger issues are his sister and brother, and he closest friend, Tugger. Of course, Misto doesn’t think he has a problem, or at least he won’t admit it; however, it is an issue none the less - an issue that has yet to be dealt with.
Mistoffelees is a liar. Small white lies or substantial lies – he will tell either without a blink of his eye if it is meant to benefit him. He is a good liar at that. When lying, most people glance down and to the right out of guilt. This has been proven to be a subconscious trigger of the body when said person is lying; however, Mistoffelees doesn’t feel guilty when he lies. He’ll stare you straight in the eye and lie. As long as a lie doesn’t bring another physical harm, or as long as it doesn’t bring another’s life crumbling to the ground, he doesn’t see what the problem is. Lying comes just as naturally to him as telling the truth, though thankfully, Misto doesn’t lie on a daily basis.
As hinted above, Mistoffelees is very self-assured and confident in himself. With that comes stubbornness. He is very set in his ways, and will be the last person to ever admit he has done something wrong. He has an excuse for everything, and a reason for his wrong doings. An apology is a hard thing to get from him. He has to feel gut wrenching guilt before he'll say sorry, or admit he is in the wrong.
Describing word: Unstable
History: Mistoffelees is the middle child of three. Alonzo is the eldest, and Victoria is his litter mate, and slightly younger twin. Mistoffelees’s father, while he scarcely remembers him, was affiliated with the hench cats, and his mother was an upper class queen and elder sister to Bustopher Jones. How they exactly met, Mistoffelees will never know; however, what he does know is that while his father was a hench, he wasn’t by any means “evil.” A little rough around the edges, yes, but not the typical sort that you’d expect to be lurking around the warehouse.
At an extremely young age, rumors filtered through the warehouse of Misto’s father’s mating with his mother, and in order to keep his mate and kittens safe, Misto’s father left. He told their mother that it was for the best, and that if the wrong henches caught wind of their mateship, they’d undoubtably be in danger. That was the last Mistoffelees saw of his father until a few months later when his father came barreling into their home both begging and demanding their mother to take the kittens and leave. Before Misto’s mother could get an explanation from his father, three large hench toms charged into their home without a second warning.
Misto’s father was no match for the three, and while he put up the best fight that he could, he was killed while trying to defend his mate and his kittens from the toms. In a sorrowful rage at watching her mate die, Misto’s mother lunged at the toms, doing her absolute best to keep them at bay. Misto’s mother knew what would happen if her kittens were taken - one, they’d be killed, or two, they’d be taken to the warehouse and would be deprived of the life their father had desperately wanted for them - a life of freedom and happiness. Once taken, they’d be given no other choice but to serve the tom he had grown to loath. Macavity.
While Mistoffelees doesn’t remember the exact details of what happened, he remembers his mother being forced to the ground, and claws around her throat. He remembers seeing red, and the harsh tug of his brother trying to keep him back. He remembers feeling a surge of power, and screaming, but after that, nothing. Absolutely nothing. He remembers waking up to ringing in his ears and being pulled down the sidewalk haphazardly by Alonzo with Victoria clinging to Alonzo’s free hand and crying uncontrollably. At that point, Mistoffelees didn’t know whether or not their mother lived. It wasn’t until early the next morning, after showing up at their uncle’s home, that a small tom that worked for Bustopher delivered the bad news to the small family after returning to their home upon Bustopher’s request.
Absolutely heart broken over the tragic death of his sister, Bustopher Jones clung to the only thing he had left of her - her three children. Bustopher took Alonzo, Mistoffelees and Victoria in, and raised them as his own. He treasured Alonzo, and doted over Victoria, and while Misto knew that he was loved, he was the awkward middle child, and a constant reminder to Bustopher of their father. While Mistoffelees’s father’s powers weren’t extensive, he was who Misto inherited his abilities from, and Bustopher had never been a fan of is sister’s mate. Nevertheless, he was as good to Misto as he could very well manage, though Misto knew he’d never be comparable to Alonzo or Victoria in Bustopher’s eyes. That was okay though. Mistoffelees was happy enough.
Bustopher introduced the kittens to the jellicle tribe shortly after they came to live with him, and has been a part of them ever since. Once Mistoffelees came of age, he left Bustopher’s lavish human home to take up permanent residence in the junkyard, along with his brother, Alonzo. He has since made a comfortable life for himself, and has pledged his loyalty to the Jellicles.
Mistoffelees has a half brother by his father - Fangorn. Misto does not know that Fangorn is his half brother, but has met him on a number of occasions.
RP Sample: Staying up late had become somewhat of a custom for Mistoffelees. He'd wait until most were asleep before crawling out of his den, yet of course he'd return only an hour or so later to ensure that he'd get a bit of sleep as well. This was his private time though; his hour or so away from the real world. It had become something he looked forward to every night - a time for him to contemplate and to tap into his inner "zen" and recharge. While sleeping often did the trick, there was nothing light quiet contemplation and meditation.
Creeping through the shadows, Mistoffelees paused at the sound of movement. His dark eyes pierced through the night as he searched for the culprit of the noise, and he didn't have to wait too long. Poor Tugger stood out like a sore thumb.
"Having trouble sleeping?" He asked, his voice cutting through the silence. "Or is your night far from over?" Misto's eyebrows rose slightly as he smiled, walking quietly towards his friend. He was about to ask what the mane coon was carrying; however, he could smell the nip from a mile away.
"Geez Tugger, if you're planning on selling that stuff, discretion is key." Misto scowled as the potent odor filled the surrounding area.
Comments: Mistofelees’s magic consists of the ability to conjure light and manipulate electricity – hence the dazzling lights that can appear on his fur and the lightening bolts he can shoot from his hands. Other than it being a genetic trait, Misto has no real explanation as to how he came about acquiring these abilities. Mistofelees uses his magic primarily as a tool. He can conjure orbs of light that act as a ‘”flashlight” so to speak, and while his ability to channel electricity is used primarily for show, Misto has been known to use it as a weapon. He is not built like most toms his age, and while he doesn’t have muscle and brawn on his side, his magic serves as self-defense.
Naturally, much like electricity itself, storms seem to intensify Mistoffelees’s abilities, while non-conductives, such as heavy winds and rubber tend to weaken Misto’s abilities. Mistoffelees tends to not use his magic if there is a heavy breeze. Additionally, water, while it is a good channeler for electricity, can make him “short circuit,” meaning that although his powers get stronger during storms, he tends to not use them due to the high wind velocity, and the rain that comes with it. He isn’t able to control his magic during a storm, which makes it less of a tool and rather a safety issue.
Magic itself can be draining. While conjuring basic orbs don’t bother Misto, heavy usage of his magic physically and mentally drained. Typically after he practices, Misto has to go and take a nap or meditate in order to rejuvenate himself. He has to be extra careful when exerting large amounts of magic - if he is not careful he ends up fainting, and in the worse case scenario, he could end up in an induced coma.
