Human Appearance:
Richard Armitage
Personality:
Fierce: Fang doesn't exactly wander about looking for fights. Having spent much of his kittenhood learning to fight and getting thrashed in the meanwhile, it's not what you'd call a favourite passtime of his. That being said, he's not difficult to provoke. If someone mildly annoys him, he may stick with bantering. If he feels himself mocked or insulted, however, he'll readily rise to a physical squabble. He finds it difficult to resist any sort of challenge, over anything from queens to petty name-calling.
Stubborn: As stated, he's a sucker for challenges. Once he's been given one (whether explicitly or implicitly), he won't leave off until he feels he's beaten it. This could be given the more 'positive' name of Persistence, except that some things are simply not worth running oneself ragged over. Fang has difficulty making any such distinction; the term 'choose your battles' means little to him. Once he's got an idea in his head, he has to stick it through to the end - which can make him appear steadfast or simply ridiculous, depending on the situation.
Obedient: That being said, he has a certain respect for authority. Obviously he takes any direct order from Macavity without question, but also from any hench he sees as above or 'senior' to him in rank. However much he may resent a particular cat, he knows better than to outwardly defy anyone 'in' with the chief. Direct orders are the only thing that would dissuade him from his petty quarrels or more ridiculous ideas, though this rarely happens as it's rarely worth their time so long as it's not interfering with a job.
Ambitious: He is forever trying to 'better himself.' Though he respects those above him (whether genuinely or forcedly), his goal is to move up in the ranks as quickly as possible. He more or less considers this his 'life' or 'ongoing challenge' to be beat. Thus, as much as possible, he tries to take on the most prominent or difficult tasks in order to impress his seniors, and thereby catch Macavity's notice. Of course, his tendency to take on less important 'challenges' is a deterrent to this goal.
Faults: His chief 'outward' faults are his stubbornness and his ambition. The first is a mainly problem when he starts an unnecessary row with a fellow hench. The second gets him in trouble when he exaggerates or 'tweaks' a situation in order to make himself look good. The two qualities are also constantly competing, as he tells himself he 'wants to do everything right and move up in the ranks and get in with Macavity,' and yet is so easily distracted by lesser matters that badly hurt his case. Finally, his huge 'inward' fault - 'inward' only because he's not discussed the subject with anyone and hardly yet admitted it to himself - is his uncertainty. For example, he likes to think he's left his past completely behind, but he truly has no idea what he would do if he encountered his brother - he doesn't know which is stronger, his loyalty to the henches or blood ties. He also can't completely escape the nagging feeling that some of Macavity's orders and methods bother him, though he couldn't say why or even give a name to it, having lived in 'survival mode' for so long. In the main, these uncertainties have little effect on his day-to-day life, but the tension is there, and just the right situation could potentially upset the balance.

History: He was an 'accident'. His mum belonged to humans, and one night they found her with a litter of kittens. As soon as they were old enough to leave their mother, she did her best to find them decent homes before they could be sent off to the animal shelter. Since human companionship was all she'd ever known, and the very thought of 'strays' terrified her, she left her kits on different humans' doorsteps. Fangorn ended up with a family who was decent enough, but had three small children who constantly played with, pulled at, snuggled, and bothered the tom to distraction. Fang decided he'd be better off striking out on his own onto the streets, perhaps finding a gang of strays to join up with. For a while, he had the time of his life, going where he wanted, sleeping wherever he found, and acquiring food in any way he could. One day, he happened upon a cat who, to Fang's annoyance, seemed quite concerned that such a young tom was living alone on the streets like this. The cat invited him to come along and visit a group called the 'Jellicles' and see if he might like to stay there. Fang reluctantly agreed. After only a few weeks, Fang found he disliked it more and more each day. It wasn't that he was completely against the idea of joining a group - it made sense, after all, and offered protection and shared food and the like - but things among the Jellicles felt far too 'peaceful' for his liking. The fact that he had begun his life by being separated from his mother, had already had to endure some hardship, and that other felines he'd seen about the city were far worse off - all of this made him want to DO something about it, though he was too young to quite express or understand exactly what. He did know that he couldn't take what he saw as the Jellicles' stance of 'blissfully unaware.' From what he could see, all they did all day was eat, play, sing, and argue. He wanted a life of action.
Fang once again wandered on his own for a while, but this life was not nearly as sweet as it had seemed before. No matter what he told himself, now that he'd got a taste of group companionship, he couldn't very well do without it. So he kept a constant eye out for anycat he might find to lead him to a...Band of Action, as he silently called it to himself. Before too long, he happened upon the warehouse that was the main 'headquarters' of Macavity and his henchcats. Rather than bother with sneaking and spying around to find out about the place, Fang recklessly determined to take the direct route. He approached two henchcats standing guard and started questioning them about their gang. At first they were suspicious, but as the conversation went on they concluded he wasn't a spy, just a dumb kit asking more questions than was good for him. They tried to shoo him off, but he persisted, insisting that he wanted to join their gang, he didn't care, as long as they "really DID things!" he kept saying. One henchcat became extremely annoyed, but the other was amused by this strange tomkit. "Can you fight?" the henchcat asked. "Yes," Fang declared, though he'd never yet been in a real fight--only had to run off another kit from stealing his food. "Fight me, then," invited the hench. The encounter ended with Fang covered in cuts and bruises and the two henchcats laughing at him and telling him to come back when he learned to fight.
Though the henchmen had meant this sarcastically, Fang took it very much to heart. Once the challenge was made, he was determined not to quit until he'd beaten it. First, he tried to teach himself various skills, but that didn't go far with his limited knowledge. He thought of going back to the Junkyard for help, but who there would know any self-defense skills? Besides, they'd only ask too many questions. For a while, he took to watching (from a safe distance) any fights that happened to break out in the streets, and picked up a few things that way. Finally, he simply began approaching various tough-looking cats and bargaining with them: 'I'll trade you so much food for so much training,' or, more often, simply making a challenge, with the loser giving up his food to the victor. Somecats merely looked at him strangely and ran him off, but most agreed to his challenges and bargains; mostcats on the streets were accustomed to fighting and would do just about anything for food. At first, of course, Fang constantly lost, and was covered in scabs and bruises at any given time. Eventually, as he learned and grew stronger, the tables began to turn. He even became somewhat infamous, in certain alleyways, as 'the one you'd better not provoke.'
This process took quite a while, and Fangorn nearly forgot why he'd even begun it. He might have stayed content in this lifestyle if it weren't for the fact that it had been a challenge, and a challenge from a cat who'd mocked and humiliated him. And he still had a hankering to be part of a group with tasks and goals and opportunities to use and impress others with his skills. He approached the henchcat tribe again, now a larger, stronger adolescent. This time he was accepted, and has been there ever since. He's since noticed, of course, the hench tribe's involvement in some 'shadier' dealings, particularly in regards to the Jellicles. None of this has ever given him much pause, mainly because he calculates on his own survival, not the wellbeing of some group he never knew much of except that they didn't seem to do much of anything. When the thought does occur to him, he convinces himself his loyalty to Macavity knows no bounds and that he'll do whatever he's ordered.
RP Sample:
The flecked tom crouched in the bushes, pulling himself further in to ensure his black-and-white pelt was completely hidden. He bit down on his lip to stop himself snickering aloud. Fangorn couldn't believe his good fortune! He pricked up his ears and leaned in to hear more clearly. The two felines on the other side of the bush were discussing something very intensely. He couldn't quite grasp at everything they were referring to, but they had definitely said enough to alert Fang to the fact that they were either Jellicles or knew something of the Jellicle tribe in general. And the fact that they were off on their own, speaking with lowered voices, carried significance. "Can't wait to report this," Fang muttered to himself. "Feeding the Leader's Jellicle obsession is a sure way to gain some sort of prominence, at least."
Comments: Well...Fang has been totally rethought and revamped. Please let me know if he will do.
