Name: Rumpus
Gender: Male
Age: Adult (32)
Tribe: Hench Cat
Tribe Position: Member
Family: Unknown [OPEN, just PM me]
Appearance: Rumpus has always taken good care of his body. He is of a healthy weight, for his age. He's got muscles, but they are not bulgy or sickeningly huge. His body is more agile then overbearing/brute strength. He does have big leg muscles, however. His fur coat is slick and is black. So deep of black, one can feel as though they're slipping into the abyss if they stare too long at it. He has a white chest, and a small patch of black fur over his white chest that looks like an 'R' if you cock your head to the right. Contrary to his slick and almost oriental style fur on his body, his mane is extremely fluffy, long, and wild. He mostly will leave his mane unkempt, and wildly out there. But on the off chance, he will have the urge to pull it back and up. He also has deep crimson eyes; eyes that remind Rumpus of the color of blood.
Human Appearance: Sean Bean
Personality: Everyone, whenever they think of the Rumpus Cat thinks first and foremost about his fighting prowess and his accomplishments. As a fighter, he was never bigger or badder then his opponents. For the most part, they usually had the upperhand when it came to strength. Rumpus is quite clever, and intelligent. He has this unique ability to out-think, outwit or use his opponents strength's against them. So far, he's always been able to win out over a superior enemy; and in some instances he's been able to beat several superior enemies alone. However, Rumpus would simply state that luck was on his side. And he does consider himself lucky, but believe's it's always a gamble. A gamble he's always willing to take. He does have a good heart, but after so many countless brutalities he's committed and has been a part of, his good intentions have been buried. He does believe the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and if it is then it won't matter what he does in the long run. At least that's something he'll always tell himself to help him cope with some of the more evil things he's done in his life. And when he does think it's wrong or that he's going over the line, he tries to look at the big picture. Sometimes the ends do justify the means and he does know that sometimes bad things have to happen for good things to prevail.
While it has been stated that Rumpus is horribly tactful. He's more deceptive and charming then outright smart; though this does not make him dumb. Amazingly, and mostly due to his charisma, he not only has the respect and trust of Macavity, he has managed to be revered as a hero to the cats on the streets, and has turned into a legend among the jellicles. If one is fortunate to be friends with or have the trust of Rumpus, he is definitely someone to have on their side. However, if anyone did cross him, he will not hesitate to let them know how much they'll regret that decision. Because of his unique deceptive abilities, others find it hard to read Rumpus. Rumpus, despite all his faults, can be a friendly tom. He is funny and is generally good company. He is also very social and is the type that rarely clashes with anyone else's personalities. Oh sure, there are some cats that can annoy him, but he has a high tolerance and will be able to talk with anyone and generally enjoy himself.
Rumpus though, has a way of talking a lot but saying very little. Macavity is the only one who really knows him and most of his past, though there are some secrets that he keeps to himself; doesn't everyone? Due to his arrogance, he loves having his ego inflated and will not even bat an eye if someone insults him or makes a barb about his arrogance and ego. Something else that Rumpus is shameless about is flirting. As long as your a queen, doesn't matter what you look like, he'll flatter, flirt or make a pass at. He's not disgusting about it, as he'll just test the waters at first to see how the other reacts. But he will sometimes use queens in order to keep Macavity from knowing his attraction or true feelings for him. He has occasionally tried it out with toms, as he doesn't want to seem bothered by his feelings and fantasies about Macavity. And he's not, but he also found out that it's only Macavity he's attracted to when it comes to toms. (So far anyway)
Faults: Rumpus, as stated above, usually and metaphorically rolls the dice every time he jumps into a battle, situation, or fight. The black tom can be slightly on the superstitious side. He will often refer to chance or fate, as lady luck, and is one of the driving forces in the world that Rumpus believes in, other then his friend and his friends vision of the future, of course. But because he does believe in the lady luck, he can get superstitious, in order to help assure victory in any given battle. He is also arrogant as hell over his abilities and his battles. Rumpus will not hesitate to regale an audience or a barroom of patrons about any one of his street battles. He also has no shame when he announces how good he is, or how instrumental he was to a mission. One of his weaknesses is his huge ego. He loves a good ego stroking and it can make him too overconfident.
Rumpus is highly morally ambiguous. He torments himself, and is constantly at odds with himself, over what is truly right and wrong. He will question himself mentally over what he's done or what he's about to do. It's part of his tormented side. It doesn't stop him from acting out or doing things that can be considered wrong. But he's not so far gone that he's blocked out his conscious. While one might consider this a positive trait, in his position, it's more of a liability. Luckily, his consciousness and voice of reason will pop up at night. He suffers from horrible night terrors over it and rarely gets a good night sleep. And is why he does suffer from insomnia; most nights he is too anxious to have the nightmares and hear the screams. His consciousness is a liability when it sometimes will pop up while he's on a mission or in the middle of a fight. It will cause him to freeze up and will put him at a disadvantage. It doesn't happen a lot, but it has earned him a few scars underneath his fur over the years.
Among his other faults, Rumpus has a silver tongue and can lie quite easily. It's almost scary how quickly a lie can come to him. And even when it's an obvious lie, he is charismatic enough that others WANT to believe him. The lie could be staring them in the face, but his trusting face, his reputation on the streets and his charisma cloud the judgments of others and others fall prey to his words. He's been able to trap cats and dogs on the street this way and if he's in a bind, he's not afraid to exploit this con ability to weasel his way out of a jam. He will not hesitate to exploit his advantages or other cats, dogs, or those he'd label as enemies weaknesses. He will find their weakness and then will mercilessly go after it. Perhaps the reason this is such a huge fault for Rumpus, is because Rumpus feels this is one of his greatest strengths. Showing how far Rumpus has come in his morality.
Describing word: Tormented
History:
Rumpus never knew his parents, and never would. He was found by an elderly tom, who had been enjoying a walk just outside the territory of the Junkyard. He was the older brother of the tom that would later be known as Old Deuteronomy. He had never seen who had dumped the crying baby, but it was Rumpus' crying that had caught his attention. He had brought Rumpus into the junkyard, and after a few weeks, he had fallen for the tyke. He named Rumpus, and chose to raise him. He did get help from some of the other jellicles, when Rumpus would need food, or if his older age had prevented him from helping Rumpus in some way, but he never wanted to give Rumpus up. He had thought raising a child was out of the realm of possibilities, as he was getting older, but after spending so much time with the black furball, he couldn't imagine giving Rumpus up to someone else to raise.
Pop's, as Rumpus started calling him, believed honesty was crucial in Rumpus' development. So Pop's told Rumpus very early in his life that he wasn't his biological father, and that he was found outside the Yard and taken in by himself and the rest of the jellicles. He didn't want to shield Rumpus from the truth and didn't want Rumpus finding out on his own only for him to grow up bitter and resentful over his 'father' lying to him. His way hadn't been much better, as it was damaging to Rumpus' psyche that his own parents dumped on the side of the road like trash, but knowing he had a family at the yard and cats that had cared enough to bring him in and raise him, had helped his healing process. Being the older brother of Old Deuteronomy, Rumpus often found himself at Deuteronomy's den and interacting quite often with Deuteronomy's oldest, Macavity. At a young age, probably around the time Rumpus was the equivalent of seven (still very much a kitten), Pop's heart gave out and he passed away.
While he didn't die of old age, his older age had created health complications that Pop's eventually succumbed to. Instead of continuing Pop's honest upbringing, Deuteronomy had explained away Pop's death in a sugar-coated way; not wanting to upset Rumpus with cold truth. And he continued to fudge the truth to protect Rumpus as he grew up. Meanwhile, Rumpus found out that Deuteronomy had lied about how Pop's died, and while it wasn't anything traumatic, Rumpus despised that he had been lied to over something so simple. So he started to rebel and get frequently into trouble. He started spending more time with Macavity and he became his confidant, his best friend and his center. They did everything together, and Rumpus developed a bit of a brotherly bond with Macavity. Rumpus of course didn't realize the growing resentment between Munkustrap and Macavity or the role he played in it. All he knew was, he had found a true friend and a brother in Macavity and he was more concerned about the fact that he finally had support in a Yard where he had no family. It didn't take long to learn of the problems between Munk and Mack and being besties with Mack, he ended up inheriting the conflict between the brothers as his own.
There was no way around remaining neutral in their conflict, and Rumpus didn't know Munkustrap that well. He would never betray Macavity and so he obviously took Mack's side. Mack always had his back and they were all still young, so none of the toms knew their decisions would shape them or affect their relationships and the Yard down the road. Unfortunately, when Rumpus was around twelve, just coming into his preteens, and early teenage years, his powers (which he didn't know that's what they were) manifested for the first time and quite literally overnight Rumpus had more things to worry over then a brotherly feud between the two "Princes". It had happened during the middle of the day, and had come on slowly. Everything had gotten super bright and a headache turned into a migraine. Rumpus thought he was losing his eyesight, and Mack was his lifeline while he was at the infirmary getting checked over.
When nightfall had come his eyesight was more focused probably because everything had been so blurry and out of focus that being able to see again made things more clearer for him, and his migraine was gone. When he started disappearing into the shadows, for a young tom his age, he freaked out and started screaming. But it was Macavity's presence and hold on his paw that kept him grounded. One of the mystics that lived in the city and that Deuteronomy knew, came to Rumpus the next night and confirmed that what Rumpus suffered from was not mental or a physical issue, but that he had mystical powers that were manifesting for the first time. He spent time with the city mystic to learn what his abilities were and how to control them, and they did so during the night when he wasn't suffering from headaches and felt more comfortable. Unfortunately, this meant he spent less time in the junkyard with Macavity.
Eventually, when he did come home and hangout with Macavity, things between Mack and Munk were growing worse and Rumpus frequently felt pulled into a fight that he soon felt no side was going to win. But he didn't waver in his loyalty to Macavity, which made his strenuous relationship to Munkustrap worse. So much so that he and Macavity ended up in a big fight, that they both ended up realizing had been a misunderstanding. And they both suspected that Munkustrap had something to do with their fight. Only Munk would stand to gain by throwing a rift in their friendship, and this renewed his cause to Mack's side, and their friendship became even more solid afterwards. Rumpus would go so far as to say after that fight and the realization of Munk's involvement, nothing would ever come between him and Mack again. When Macavity was exiled, (Rumpus may or may not be involved in the exile) [WILL ELABORATE MORE ONCE THE DETAILS OF SAID EXILE ARE HAMMERED OUT] Rumpus publicly acknowledged and defended Macavity. He stood by his friend and went into self exile.
He spent a few years on the streets, scrapping by. He'd help others when he could, and he bullied and stole and took from others to survive. It started small, as he'd punish those that had harmed someone else. But he still turned into a hypocrite because he was living on the streets and needed basic things in order to live. And while he tried to do so just at night, when he was plagued by migraines and at a disadvantage with his sight (due to being sensitive to light), there were days where he had to take to the streets and had to rely on his other attributes to survive. This is where he mainly fine tuned his silver tongue and became more charismatic, as he had a difficult time navigating around during the day, let alone fighting. However, during one such day, he had come across a very bloodied/unconscious Ryder, and a badly injured Munkstrap being attacked. He stepped in and fought off the dog. Munkustrap had fallen unconscious shortly after he arrived on the scene and though he was at a disadvantage, and gained several scars for butting his nose into the affair, Rumpus was able to kill the dog and save Munkstrap. He carried both Ryder and Munkustrap back to the yard, and only Deuteronomy was the one that knew he had brought them back to safety.
He knew there was nothing that could be done for Ryder, but he figured the jellicles would have wanted his body for a proper burial and for closure. Deuteronomy wasn't sure if he believed Rumpus account of what happened, that is until Munk mentioned he saw Rumpus just before he fell unconscious, but he still offered to help Rumpus with his own injuries. Rumpus asked if Macavity was back in the yard or allowed back in the yard, but since the exile was still in place, Rumpus refused to step a single paw into the yard, and left. His life continued on from there on the streets. To the point where he started developing an almost cult following among the disenfranchised cats on the streets. They began to regard him as their hero, as he was the only one who would step up for them and protect them from others who would bully, beat or kill them. This actually gets Macavity's attention and soon, Rumpus comes face to face with his oldest and best friend Macavity. He unsurprisingly barrels into the ginger tom and hugs him upon their first meeting in years, and Rumpus is allowed to get away with the affection.
He is asked to become an agent for Macavity and work for him. Rumpus accepts the proposal without hesitation and ends up asking if he can remain on the streets and recruit for him. He offers to be Mack's eyes and ears on the streets and whatever he can learn from the jellicles. Macavity seems to have no problem with his terms of service. Eventually, having saved Munkustrap and bringing Ryder back to the yard, seemed to change the minds of a lot of the elders in the junkyard. They had also heard of his 'good work' on the streets of the city and started telling tales of him within the yard. So much so, that a lot of his history got rewritten as they told his story growing up in the yard and becoming a local hero to the cats on the streets so often. His actions of associating with Macavity and talking in his favor apparently no longer mattered, considering how the masses on the street viewed him. Once he started becoming a legend in the jellicle tribe, Rumpus became one of the few that could come and go as he pleased between the two feuding territories. Though, as a contention of pride, Rumpus will not step a foot in the Yard, until Macavity is allowed to again. That was the only code he gave himself when he went into self imposed exile, and it's one of the few things he still honors.
Many of his famous battles, did in fact happen, but both jellicles and cats on the streets have stretched the truth and distorted what really happened so much in order to go down in history along with Rumpus that almost all of the tales of Rumpus heroics are pure fiction. And ironically, whenever Rumpus would correct or try and tell the truth of his exploits he is labeled as being humble and the fictional stories are continued, with even more flare. Because apparently being humble means you add another two devastating opponents in the battle to reward the nobility of his character. Rumpus though, loves the attention, and the ego stroking and will be humble in order to get that attention. It seems to further his legend and Rumpus is not overwhelmed by the stories or his reputation, though was surprised by how wide and fast it came to be. Still he will and has used his legend as a means to furthering Macavity's cause and helping his best friend out. Despite being one of the main recruiters for Macavity, and the jellicles knowing that he at least use to be Macavity's best friend, the Jellicles don't see him as a threat, like they do Macavity, and it is yet another thing that Macavity and Rumpus have no qualms with exploiting.
RP Sample: Dusk hit the city, and Rumpus found himself patrolling through the streets. A normal routine, but it was always a different story, whenever he did run into trouble; kept him on his toes. But aside from catching a young queen that been tossed aside by two punk teenagers who had wanted her diamond stud collar to trade; Rumpus didn't know for what, but it was a safe bet it was for some weapon or drugs. After beating the two teenagers for kicks and because apparently it was the "right" thing to do, he had escorted the young queen back to her part of the city. After receiving a 'thank you' kiss on his cheek, and leaving her company, Rumpus found himself back where he started.
The two toms had managed to pick themselves up and vacate the area, since he couldn't find a trace of them, aside from their lingering scent and a couple drops of blood. Rumpus wasn't bored enough to follow their trail, and knew a couple of teenagers wouldn't be ideal for the warehouse. So going after them now, was pretty pointless. Crimson red eyes shifted from left to right as he continued on his way, stalking down the street. It was when he caught whiff of the unmistakable scent that accompanies a dog coming his way. He felt a surge through him as he found himself phasing into the shadows surrounding him.
He opened his eyes, and despite his vibrant crimson eyes, he was fully within the shadows and unseen to all; except maybe another mystic. (He wasn't sure how that worked, but it wouldn't surprise him if other mystics could at least feel each other despite their personal abilities.) Still, he observed the big muscular mutt as he stomped his way down the streets, from the safe vantage point within the darkness. The pollicle seemed like he was enraged, from what Rumpus couldn't guess, but Rumpus was just bored enough and crazy enough to fill his time by showing himself to the mad dog and see where that led. He'd emerge victorious and with few scars; Lady Luck willing.
Powers: Rumpus is one of the rare mystics that was born in the city. He is a Shadow Walker and has some affinity for Shadow Manipulation.
Rumpus can completely blend into the shadows and travel between them. He calls it phasing into the darkness. It renders him unseen to almost anyone that may be around while he's shadow walking. This ability is useful in escaping or evading larger opponents and has been instrumental in helping him gain the upper-hand when he begins to lose the advantage of whatever fight or battle he could be losing. The ability to seemingly disappear and evade attacks has been quite useful. He also uses it when he wants to travel the streets, the junkyard or the warehouse at night without being seen or recognized. He's been able to use his shadow walking for covert reconnaissance as well.
Due to his connection to the shadows and his ability to move between them, he developed a second ability to manipulate the shadows he travels through. Not in a big way, or at least not yet. He is still training and working on his second ability, though he doesn't use it too much. He can manipulate the shadows without being in them, to grow darker or appear bigger. He's also been able to engulf his opponent in darkness. It's subtle but he uses these techniques to intimidate whoever he's in conflict with, it's a demonstration of power, and it also puts his opponent at a disadvantage.
Weaknesses: As Rumpus has a connection to shadows, to the dark, he prefers the night. He is a night owl, and he doesn't go out or travel much during the day. There isn't as much darkness and reflected shadows during the day and because he's effectively cut off from his connection during the day, he is left extremely weak and vulnerable. So weak that he is unable to access his powers at all during the day. Even if he is in a darkened room, he'll feel more comfortable but he'd still be too weak to use his abilities.
Rumpus has a natural sensitivity to light as a side effect of his mysticism. If he does wake up during the morning or day or leaves any safe place he was staying, his first reaction is to flinch back at the intensely bright light. While light can be bright for anyone first thing in the morning, most of the time their eyes will adjust to the light. Not Rumpus. For Rumpus everything always looks about ten times brighter then it really is and this doesn't go away until the sun sets. Along with his light sensitivity, the harsh brightness hampers his sight, not to the point of blindness but its a disadvantage and an inconvenience. He also suffers from horrible migraines, during the day, as a result of his light sensitivity. Migraines that go away at night.
He can also suffer from a form of tunnel vision while he's shadow walking. When he gets so deeply focused during his shadow walking, his vision will start to blur into darkness at the edges. He can and has gotten lost within the darkness. Rumpus has lost chunks of time because of it. When he had first began exploring his ability, after he had trained and learned to control it, he decided to Shadow Walk all night long, or what he thought was all night long. After an hour, his vision at the edges had turned black, and he became lost within the darkness. Rumpus hadn't known until he finally slipped out of the shadows. A friend in the warehouse had asked where he'd been for the last 5 days. After an hour, Rumpus will start to lose time and after exploring it a few more times and confirming that he has and will lose chunks of time if he's shadow walking too long. Rumpus tries not to do it longer then necessary.
Comments: Rumpus believes himself to be bisexual, as he finds Macavity attractive and has hidden feelings for him. However, he has never been attracted or even looked at any other tom, besides Macavity. It's probably fair to say that he is only gay for Macavity and has no interest in getting into any other tom's bed. He will, however pursue a queen if they make a move and he is interested. He heavily guards his attraction and feelings for Macavity, however, hiding it behind respect and friendship.
NOTE: His history is meant to have some parallel's with Macavity's history. So once Mack's history is finished, Rumpus' history MAY change slightly.
