Name: Skimbleshanks
Gender: Male
Age: Elder (mid-60s in human years)
Tribe: Jellicle
Tribe Position: Member
Family: Parents long deceased, no known siblings.
Appearance: Skimbleshanks is an orange tom with darker orange, yellow, brown, black, and grey striping. These stripes are not like Munkustrap's, however, or Mungojerrie's and Rumpleteazer's. They are very soft, subtle, almost dappled, like the sunlight through autumn leaves. His limbs are mostly grey, with some black splotches. His compulsive grooming has left his chest mostly furless, and he wears a doll's vest (given to him by the human station master as a sort of joke) to cover it up. [x]
Human Appearance: Christoph Waltz [x] [x]
Personality: Skimbleshanks is constantly looking to make things better, as he thinks nothing is ever quite good enough. He is essentially a perfectionist who desires to reform and improve; an idealist who strives to make order out of the omnipresent chaos.
Skimble has a fine eye for detail. He is always aware of flaws in himself, others, and the situations in which he finds himself. This triggers his need to improve, which can be beneficial for all concerned, but which can also become burdensome for both him and those who are on the receiving end of his reform efforts.
Skimble's inability to achieve the perfection he desires feeds his feelings of guilt for having fallen short, and fuels his incipient anger against an imperfect world. However, he tends to feel guilty about his anger. Anger is a 'bad' emotion, and Skimble strives sincerely and wholeheartedly to be 'good'. Anger is therefore vigorously repressed from consciousness, bursting forth in occasional fits of temper, but usually manifesting in one of its many less obvious permutations – impatience, frustration, annoyance, and judgmental criticality. For this reason, Skimble is quite difficult to live with, but, on the high side, is a very loyal, responsible, and capable partner and friend.
Skimble is a serious tom; he is highly principled, competent, and uncompromising. He follows the rules and expects others to do so as well. Because he believes so thoroughly in his convictions, he is an excellent leader who can inspire those who follow him with his own vision of excellence.
Skimble is driven and ambitious, and is quite a workaholic. He is an active, practical cat who likes nothing more than to get things done. He is a natural-born organizer, a listmaker who finishes everything on the list, the last one to leave the station, the first to return, industrious, reliable, honest, and dutiful.
The relentlessness of his pursuit of the ideal makes Skimble a tense cat who has a hard time relaxing and who unnecessarily denies himself many of the harmless pleasures of life. He is emotionally repressed and uncomfortable with expressing tender feelings; he generally sees emotional impulsiveness as a sign of weakness and lack of control. He is quite the opposite of spontaneous.
Faults: Skimble has a problem with repression. He represses the more irrational sides of his nature, his instinctual impulses and personal desires, in an attempt to sublimate them in a quest for perfection. His normal desires gradually become more and more repressed as he is caught in conflicts between striving after ideals and implementing them in the real world.
The picture is further complicated, however, because he relates to the world dualistically: he sees himself as less than the ideal, while giving the impression that he is also greater than the environment, which he is obligated to improve. He constantly measures not only the distance between himself and the ideal, but also the distance between his present perfection and his past imperfection. Simply put, Skimble feels that he and his world must be making progress. Anything that is perceived as blocking or frustrating progress toward the ideal is met with anger and aggression.
Describing word: Perfectionist
History: Skimbleshanks was born in northern England, where he spent the first few years of his kittenhood with his rather irresponsible parents.
When he was around six, his parents decided on a whim that the family should move to Scotland. He spent the rest of his kittenhood and teenage years in Scotland, feeling responsible for his own parents and working hard to clean up their messes.
