Rumpus walked leisurely into the grassy field, his black fur almost concealed against the dark greens of the tall grassy field. The moon was high in the sky, however there wasn't much light coming from it. Numerous clouds filled the night sky, and mostly covered the moon. Rumpus eyes glowed, as he looked around. Not hearing or sensing anyone else nearby, the slender black tom curled up and laid down.
On his way there, had been eventful. Three strays had caught up with him, gushing over how he had saved them from some pitbull a few months back. They had treated him to a free drink, some cat nip and some delicious canned cat food they had obtained from one of the humans homes. After a filling meal, and good (albeit slightly odd) company, Rumpus had set himself back onto the streets. Three streets later, and around two corners, Rumpus had run into a stray tom and his older brother. Compliments of the streets, he had broken up their raid on a shipment of supplies they had needed two weeks back.
They had been shipments meant for Macavity and his hench cats, so of course Rumpus had stepped in to stop their theft. It hadn't earned him any friends, and the brothers proceeded to start a fight with the local legend. It was a tough and entertaining fight, and Rumpus was sure the two brothers were just now waking up from their stupors. Rumpus had beaten them, though they had gotten a few good hits in on him. Now, though, now he was laying in the field, alone. He needed a break from street life and socializing with others. He had gotten enough of that in that night. He began licking his wounds, minor and superficial cuts. The only other injury he had sustained was a blow to his left eye. It was still stinging, and sore to the touch. Rumpus wasn't sure, but it felt slightly puffy and swollen.

The cloud filled sky provided a darker night, which the ginger tom took advantage of. Using this opportunity to slip out of the warehouse unseen by any of his Henches, a much needed break from the constant demands of running as tribe. Some days it got ridiculous how many trivial and asinine 'problems' Macavity had to handle. So many of them may as well be oversized kits with the way they were able to think for themselves and solve their own minor disputes. So the darker nights that lent themselves to the tom disappearing without a trace were taken advantage of.
It was also most advantageous for the ginger tom to make it out of the city, otherwise there was a very good chance of running into either one of his own tribe, or a Jellicle. Both of which became very irritating when he was specifically and actively avoiding others. So Mac slunk his way through the darkest back allies and streets to get out of the city, managing to be completely unseen.
Figuring the fields would be more isolated that was where Macavity headed, also looking forward to the quietness of being away from the city. However the ginger tom was surprised when he scented Rumpus, and even more surprised when he could faintly smell blood as well. That caused a pause in his step and then an increase in his pace until he came upon the black tom. The first thing Macavity noticed was the swollen eye. Silently Macavity approached Rumpus until he was standing in front of the dark tom and crouched down, as his paw reached out to Rumpus' face intent on inspecting just exactly how bad his eye was.

Rumpus wasn't alone for long before he had sensed another presence coming closer. Sniffing the air, and just knowing for some unknown reason in the pit of his stomach, that it was Macavity. His first instinct to move swiftly through the tall grass instantly faded. The presence of Macavity was able to still his gut reaction, and eased his troubled mind. Not that there were too many troubles running through his mind. He closed his eyes and breathed in the scent of his one night lover, as the ginger tom moved closer to him.
Rumpus wasn't able to admit it out loud, but he could admit it to himself that he was further emotionally invested in Macavity and his feelings towards the tom. He knew there was no future between them, but he wasn't depressed enough to give up hope on it. Still, his loyalty was to Macavity, and whatever Macavity needed of him or needed him to be, Rumpus would oblige. He opened his eyes, just in time to look into Macavity's. He titled his face slightly, to give his leader better access to his injured and swollen eye. "My injuries and scars. They're not as sexy as I'm hoping they are, are they?" He was cheeky enough to smirk at Macavity, only to wince and drop his lips back into a thin line.

Despite having stolen away from the warehouse with the sole purpose of having some hours to himself he was in no way opposed to Rumpus' presence. In fact, Mac was happily surprised to have run into the black tom although with his current serious expression it was near impossible to tell. The ginger was glad to have time away from the warehouse with Rumpus, but he wasn't exactly thrilled to find Rumpus injured. Naturally Macavity knew that those in his tribe got roughed up rather well, but from fights among themselves and others (among the main reasons he'd allowed Jelly to attempt to find and train a healer), but he was not as invested in the others as he was Rumpus.
Lightly he ran the pads of his paws over the swollen area, please that Rumpus actually gave him better access to it. Seeing how much the black tom's face had grown Mac didn't want to use too much pressure but still wanted to test how bad it was.
At the quip Mac's lips twitched towards a smile, although he waited until he was pulling his paw away from the tom's face to reply with a barely repressed smirk. "It's the swelling, you don't get to be quite as ... expressive."

Rumpus kept his tough face, for the first few seconds of Macavity inspecting his eye, but the moment one of Mack's fingers brushed over a tender aread, he couldn't hide the slight cringe in the rest of his face. Pretty soon though, he was taking a quick intake of breath, and jerked his head away. He gave Mack a small smile. "I'm fine, Maccy. You just hit a sore spot." He spoke quickly in reassurance. He was quite pleased that Macavity was taking the time to check him over, to make sure he wasn't gravely hurt. And Rumpus knew that Macavity didn't do this for everyone, so he did feel quite wanted at that moment.
So he wanted to put Macavity's mind at ease. His smile turned into a bigger grin, as he unconsciously moved his head away from any further exploring paws."Remember that scuffle with the blood pack?" He shook his head, but more slowly then normal. So he wouldn't put himself through any stinging pain. "Those stray pollicles had done quite a number on me before I defeated them and used the last of my strength to trap them some humans enforced backyard." He desperately did want to cuddle in Macavity's arms, or up to his side, or in his lap. To just feel the tom's strong arms on him in some fashion, but wasn't sure how that'd be taken.
He knew they were engaged in a physical relationship, and he knew Macavity was fine with continuing, whenever either one of them got the "itch". But the way Macavity had described it to him, it was casual. Which indicated they could have recreational sex with others on top of what they had. Though Rumpus only had eyes for the ginger tom at the moment. Still, cuddling seemed to domestic for the relationship they had established for themselves and Rumpus didn't feel comfortable enough pushing anything more on the tom.
"Anyway..." Rumpus continued,"Ended up dragging my battered and bloody body back onto your doorstep with shaky and cut up arms. You've seen me much worse off." The words telling Macavity not to worry over his unimportant and expendable welfare was left unspoken. But anyone who knew him, would have easily heard those words underlying his story, just by the tone of his voice.

Macavity grimaced as Rumpus cringed and pulled his head away, although he made sure not to reach for the dark tom's face again. Doing so wouldn't help, and probably just make the swelling worse so with a sigh Macavity drops his paws, absently running one through his dreaded main. Rather patiently, at least for the ginger tom he listened to Rumpus' attempt to persuade him that he was fine.
It took a moment before Macavity was able to pinpoint that event in his memories and snorted a bit, "If I recall correctly, you attempting to convince me you'd had worse then too. You were lucky we had a healer at the time." he commented dryly. The words left unsaid by the dark tom were evident to Macavity, who took a few moments to consider how to best address that. By no means did he agree with the unspoken words, evident through the fact that the ginger tom actively inspected the wounds rather than simply taking Rumpus' attempt to ease his mind at face value.
However this time it seemed that truthfully the damaged didn't appear anything more than superficial and minor. Good. Appeased, the ginger tom settled himself beside Rumpus, finally actually allowing himself to relax and let the normal tension that resided in his muscles to melt away. "Hopefully no such drastic measures will need to be taken." He half referenced last time, as well as the future. Macavity had no desire to see Rumpus so injured in the future.

Rumpus was studying Macavity with his eyes, though the one eye did give him some problems. Deciding to put less strain on his swollen eye, he gazed at Macavity though half-lidded eyes. He did snort softly at Macavity's words. Had he? Had he really tried convincing Macavity he was fine back then, too? His lips broke out into a smile, as he gave his lover a sidelong stare. "It's coming back to me now. Heh. I've been a foolhardy thick-headed tom since we were kids Mack. What can I say?" Rumpus put his paw under his chin as he thought more about that incident. He and Mack rarely talked about their history. Long before they ever got intimate.
Rumpus nodded. "Oh yeah. You gave me the ultimatum of doing another shift or getting my bloody behind to the Healers." He was still grinning at the recall. It had been the only way Macavity could get through his stubbornness and get himself bandaged up. If his injuries had been any worse, he may have tried to milk Macavity's concern as much as he could. Just because. However, it was probably just a black eye, so it was nothing to whine over. Though the brief walk down memory lane was a nice note to end the night on.
He allowed himself to feel satisfaction and comfort with Macavity's relaxed body now settled beside his. With both his paws, he ran them through his own mane, flattening it back behind his shoulders and off of his face. Crossing his legs at his ankles, he was half laying down and half sitting up. He'd lay all the way down, but he wasn't tired enough for that. "So Mack." The sleek black tom spoke softly. "What brings you so far from the city?"

Despite the allusion to their childhood Macavity shook his head slightly with a faint smile, it was definitely true that Rumpus had been stubborn for the entire time that Mac had known him. All those years ago in the Yard, when they had been innocent little kits. However before the ginger tom could think more on that part of their shared past Macavity shut down his memories and shoved them back to the little space in his mind that he confined them too and that he did his best to ignore. "No one could come close to your stubborn skull." He commented before fully closing off the memories. Macavity was never very fond of or interested in revisited his past in the Yard, rarely in his experience did it do any good. Naturally there were the few exceptions.
The ginger tom rolled his eyes at the memory of how stubborn the black tom was capable of being. At the time Mac had suspected a head injury since he seemed so adamant that he could convince Mac that was fine and that he'd had much worse therefore he hadn't needed the healer at the time. Stubborn, stubborn tom.
Glancing at Rumpus, Mac noted his relaxed posture. That was good, obviously the superficial wounds were actually fine. Thinking on exactly why he'd disappeared into the night from the warehouse Mac grimaced slightly, once again reflecting on exactly how inane and tedious his job as leader had been recently. Plus with the added bonus of seeing half his damned family. "Space from the warehouse. There are days that I could swear half the tribe is comprised of over grown kits. Asinine and meaningless disputes. And it appears much of my family has visited the warehouse lately." No doubt when Tugger showed up on his rescue mission that Munk was somewhere in his halls attempting to be oh so noble. Exasperatedly Macavity let out a sigh, space from the warehouse was definitely needed.

Rumpus breathed slowly in, enjoying the silence. Macavity was the only one he could just sit with and not say a thing with. With anyone else the awkwardness would either force him to talk about dumb things he didn't care about to fill the silence, or would have made an excuse to get away from the situation. However, when Macavity did start talking, Rumpus cocked his head in contemplation. For he could sit there for hours with Macavity and listen to him talk. His voice, to put it bluntly was sexy. It did things for Rumpus. Moving positions, Rumpus sat behind Macavity while the ginger tom talked. "The are a rambunctious group. You'd think one of them would have a brain and be able to use it and think for themselves."
Stretching his paws out, he placed them lightly onto Macavity's shoulders. He started slow, massaging lightly where his paws rested. "You are tight, Mackie. If things are that stressful at the tribe, you know you could have talked to me. Or put some of the responsibilities on my shoulders." He wouldn't lie, he did like the idea of being trusted with more jobs, but his offer had been made out of loyalty and lust to Macavity. He'd do anything that he could to help the ginger tom, and he knew Macavity knew this. He also knew Mack would stop his massage if he wasn't comfortable with it, or wasn't in the mood to be taken care of.

Silence wasn't too uncommon with Macavity, there were times when speaking was simply something he didn't want to engage in. It also helped that his silence could make others uncomfortable and either scurrying away or to ramble and unwittingly reveal information to him. However he quite enjoyed the fact that neither happened with Rumpus, the silence was comforting.
As the ginger tom felt the paws start to massage his shoulders, Mac actually leaned back slightly. It was a bit odd at first, but soon he relaxed more under his lover's paws letting Rumpus attempt to unknot his muscles. Thinking back, Macavity couldn't remember anyone ever massaging his tensed muscles even while in the always touching each other Jellicle tribe. "Sometimes it's their thinking that creates their messes, or rather their lack of wit."
Macavity definitely knew that he could trust Rumpus with jobs and the going ons of the tribe, that had become explicitly clear while Rumpus was a Hench. It was also clear to the ginger tom exactly how much Rumpus enjoyed his freedom to be connected to both tribes, and while Henches who had connections to Jellicles wasn't too uncommon or frowned upon Macavity knew how the Jellicles viewed his tribe. And he knew how little knowledge the Jellicles had of Rumpus' status within the warehouse, and saddling him with more responsibilities than he already took on could endanger his freedom to dance along the lines of the tribes. "Numerous small annoyances Rumpus, tedious little things that pile up and all flood in at the same time. And there is nothing to be done about my aggravating family. Generally they're just about as pleased to see me as I am them." Although if there was one thing that could be slightly reconciled it was Macavity's understanding of why his father spent so much time away from the Junkyard. He didn't agree or approve of the actions, but could understand the motivations.

Rumpus found himself smirking behind Macavity when he felt the ginger tom lean further into his touch. Validated, and encouraged by just that subtle, tiny little movement, Rumpus continued. He applied pressure to one particular knot along his left shoulder, though closer to his neck. Working his thumb in, he started to alleviate the knot there. Once he had finished in that spot, the dark tom allowed his paws to sweep gently passed Macavity's neck and then lower. As he began to work on massaging the toms back, Rumpus once again moved to be closer to his lover and in a position comfortable enough for him.
"Well, suppose there's two options to that. Teach them to be smarter or at the very least wittier. Or recruit cats who won't cause petty problems like that. You could always make an example of one of them." Rumpus added in slyly. Wouldn't have been the first time, and it wasn't the first time Rumpus suggested that type of resolution to Macavity, whispered softly in the toms ear with little to no emotions one way or the other. His paws continued to work their magic on his leader and now his lover's back.
Rumpus leaned in closer, with the internal excuse of needing to hear the tom better. Though, considering the two have seen each other at the height of their pleasure threshold, and have been intimate with each other, Rumpus was starting to realize he didn't need an excuse to get closer, or to cop a feel. They were alone after all. Old habits and all that, but he was adjusting to being closer to Macavity than he ever thought he'd be. "Understandable. I take it you had run into them while my path had crossed with Demeters?" In some ways, he had wished he had been there to back Macavity up when he ran into his family members, but if he had that would have been indisputable evidence of Rumpus' true allegiance. It was bound to happen eventually but both he and Macavity saw the advantages of that particular discovery being delayed for as long as possible. As he kneaded a point on Macavity's back, his voice spoke low.
"Whom of your family managed to cross paths with you earlier?" Closing the distance between them, his lips came into contact with the back of Macavity's neck. Inhaling slowly, Rumpus kissed the sensitive spot, before pulling his lips back and resting his forehead against the back of Macavity's head.

It was a pleasant surprise to Macavity how relaxing he was finding the massage, and how effect Rumpus was at actually working out the knotted muscles that the ginger tom had. He couldn't think of a time in the recent past where he felt his muscles this loose, actually loose and relaxed. It was something that Macavity had simply gotten used to living with once he took on the responsibility of his tribe more seriously then when he'd initially formed it.
Examples were useful in the past and interesting motivators for behaviour. However there were uses for witless cats, they questions orders much less and were often effective in confrontations knowing their own strengths and weakness in a fight. Too full of wit and they could be bothersome when plans were put into action as Macavity rarely revealed his full plans to others, they were more likely to question and possibly derail certain objectives. But it also meant they could handle themselves if something didn't go exactly to plan. It was a thin line to balance, as were most things when it came to tribe decisions. "Both options have merits. They simply need to learn to resolve their own petty disagreements." Well at least Macavity often viewed them as petty, the cats didn't always agree on how serious the 'offenses' were.
As Rumpus moves closer, Macavity's tail flicked slightly along the black tom's leg attempting to silently communicate that Rumpus was free to move and position himself as close as he liked. They were alone, out here there weren't pesky wandering eyes. The ginger tom nodded, the run in with his half siblings had been a larger driving force behind his sour mood when Rumpus had brought Deme to the warehouse. "Tugger and Tantomile. They were attempting a rescue mission for Jellylorum, possibly others as well. No doubt with a rescue mission Munkustap was also scurrying somewhere through the warehouse too." That had been an oh so fun encounter. Even when Macavity's relations with his family were at there best he and Tugger had bashed heads.

His head continued to rest against the back of Macavity's head, breathing in the intoxicating smell of his lover. The scent both soothed and excited Rumpus in ways he couldn't even begin to describe. Shifting into a more comfortable position, he cleared his throat of his embarrassing thoughts running rampant in his head. Thankfully, Macavity's voice floated in the air, and he breathed a sigh of relief for the distraction. "Agreed. Next time, just toss the two disputing Henches in a locked room together. They'll either work it out for themselves or kill each other in the process. A double-edged sword."
Rumpus shook his head, but with his forehead still buried in Macavity's dreads, it looked and probably felt more like a nuzzle then anything else. And because it was more like a nuzzle, even to Rumpus, a soft purr started in the back of his throat. Just loud enough for Macavity to pick up on. At the mentions of Macavity's family members, Rumpus frowned deeply, affected by Macavity's moods and knowing how Macavity probably felt at the time. "I trust they didn't bother you...too much. I am sorry I hadn't been there to back you up." Even if it had exploited him as a hench, or even just a stray with strong loyal ties to Macavity, it still would have been worth it. To be by Macavity's side. He deepened his kiss, on the back of Macavity's neck this time, using his teeth to drag against his neck in a teasing way.
He wasn't aiming to go anywhere, or be all that intimate. But he did know how to distract the ginger tom. And distractions were always best to get off of anything upsetting.

the massive tom moved through the grass with a satisfied grin on his face. he was taking the back way as a precaution but their run was successful! then he noticed a....rustling in the tall grass ahead of him. slowly Manfredd stalked forward. and loomed over two toms cuddling one another. he froze when he saw who it was. "ahem evening Boss, didn't mean to disturb you." he said rounded ears perking.

[[they aren't quite cuddling yet ]] The tom's lips quirked at the mention of simply throwing the feuding Henches into a locked room, the idea had once or twice crossed his mind while dealing with annoying little disputes. It'd be at the very least an entertaining spectacle. And possibly a motivation for the Henches to figure out their own petty problems, weigh the options of working it out themselves or being forced to fight to a resolution. Somehow devise a way to create a viewing section and voila, pragmatic solutions and it would offer entertainment to the other cats in the tribe.
Rumpus shaking his head did in fact feel like being nuzzled to the ginger tom, and wondered if his dreaded main was bothering Rumpus. Silently he pulled the dreads forward on either side of his face and neck to try and avoid accidentally hitting Rumpus with them as Mac moved them out of the black tom's way. It'd been so long since any cat had purred to Mac - purring in attempt of seduction notwithstanding - that it actually took until Rumpus was speaking for Macavity to realize the gesture. "It could have been much worse. However observing both the failed rescue attempt and Tugger's enlightenment about Quaxo's status as a Hench did help. I would not doubt another attempted rescue in the near future, to their knowledge Jelly is still a captive, the Jellicles have yet to learn that she willingly agreed to be the new healer for the warehouse." Witnessing the reveal of the tuxedo tom who his half brother was obviously emotionally attached to as a Hench had been gratifying, especially with Macavity's knowledge that the former Jellicle had made the choice himself.
A delightful shiver ran down the ginger tom's spine as he felt the kiss and teeth on the back of his neck. Now that had definitely gotten his immediate attention, and promised for a very welcomed distraction. Macavity was about to relax further towards the black tom and respond to the welcomed advancement when the distinct sound of someone moving through the grass was heard. His ear immediately picked up the noise and twitched towards the sound, his muscles tensing and Macavity's focus being directed towards the disturbance. Upon seeing Manfredd the ginger tom scowled and a low hiss could be heard to vocalize his anger at being interrupted.
With a fluid movement Macavity unfolded himself from his seated position and stood tall, his shoulders back and arms crossed across his chest. Exuding his normal menacing air within the span of seconds after his previously relaxed posture. "Evening. Is there something you require Manfredd?" His tone was clipped and direct to the only point Mac could see for a Hench to have found him.
