((Since I don't think my friend is ever coming back online. I'm going to play my Merton. <3))
Name: Merton
Gender: Male
Age: Adolescent (16-17-Human)
Tribe: Jellicle.
Tribe Position: Member
Family: Deceased
Appearance: Merton is fairly short for a tom his age. He's a lanky, skinny tom, with flabby muscle mass at best. He's not bad looking, he's just not athletic, or physically strong. His best feats always accompanied his brain; his intelligence. His mane is quite long, and often times will fall down into his eyes. He has experimented with gelling it up into spikes, however as his mane is unmanageable, it does not stay up. He is a gorgeous black Medium hair, with ginger markings in his longer mane and down his chest and stomach. But he mostly has black fur. Has deep blue eyes.
On the Left
Human Appearance: Danny Smith
Personality: The best and easiest way to describe Merton, is that he's a tom whose been wired on lots and lots of Coffee; only he doesn't drink Coffee. Merton is a very spry tom, always zipping from one place to another. He's a curious tom, who although can mind his own business, he likes to know what's what, who is who, and how things operate; which includes the different social structures, etc. He likes to learn new things and often is oblivious to tension or danger around him. Ignorance is Bliss. And though Merton is not an ignorant tom, by any means, he still manages to remain in an oblivious/blissful state. This is probably due to his over active imagination. Merton has a vivid and often times wild imagination that he'll insist are true, even if deep deep in his subconscious he knows it is not. This never stopped him from making up fictional stories, sometimes concerning himself. Merton is a very energetic and bouncy tom. One might go so far as to call him flighty.
However, he is just a ball of energy that usually is only maintained or calmed down by Thomas. Most of the time he is quite a happy, hyper young fellow, despite any past traumas. Although Merton is known to ramble a lot, more so when he is in danger and trying to save his own skin or when he is nervous, Merton can be quite different when he is not nervous. Merton can be a powerful speaker, and when it comes down to it, he is incredibly descriptive. He likes and prides himself on details. Merton is intelligent, and sometimes his descriptive ramblings sound more like nerdy rants. He is a tom who likes to consider himself both wise and smart, but Merton doesn't realize that just because he's 'bookish' smart, doesn't automatically make him wise.
The wisdom is not there, as he could have saved himself from certain situations and misunderstandings if he were truly wise. He is too smart for his own good, though, he just doesn't always use his intelligence in the most intelligent ways. There's also the little problem with queens. After spending about an hour with Merton, it'll be clear to anyone that he is terrible with queens. He never knows what to say when he does speak to them, he sends all kinds of crazy signals their way, and more often then not gets tongue-tied when he tries to speak to them. If Merton does get words out, they come out all wrong and usually have the opposite effect. (Instead of complimenting or flattering them, they tend to be put off and insulted)
Faults: Though stated in his personality, Merton is a curious tom. This could be a good thing and it is one reason why he's so smart, but in Merton's case his curiosity is also the main reason why he got into so much trouble and so many jams growing up. He could never leave well enough alone and still doesn't. He also has the tendency to put his own foot in his mouth; figuratively speaking. He is socially awkward, and while this is not a fault itself, he often says the wrong things and has been known to create conflict and misunderstandings this way.
Describing word: Spazztic (Not a REAL word, but you get the idea)
History: His parents weren't all that remarkable, they lived a fairly normal life and eventually came together as mates. He was first born and a few seasons later they had another kitten, his younger sister. For a while, Merton lived an uneventful life. Though he and his younger sister fought like cats and dogs, and most of the time Merton would wish her dead, and vice verse. Merton's curiosity kept getting larger and he began to explore the city and away from the safety of his parents home, every now and then. Though it soon turned into a nightly ritual.
When he was out exploring one night, his whole world changed. His parents had gone out searching for him when they discovered him missing. They left Merton's sister behind, but she had always hated being alone and being a naive kitten trailed after her parents. Merton had heard a scuffle on his way back to his home, and still being the naive kitten himself, he went to investigate. Once he came across the scene, he saw his parents laying on the ground covered in blood and witnessed a group of cats murdering his little sister.
He didn't know how to perceive the event in his kitten mind, and not able to cope with it or the guilt, his mind came up with an elaborate fantasy. That they were a group of "Vampire" cats that had to kill his family to sustain themselves. Over the years, he pretty much blocked out the whole event and believes that it was really vampire cats who did it, but details are fuzzy and a blur. From that incident on, Merton was on his own. He stuck to shadows and isolated himself for the most part.
This is partly why he is so socially awkward around others that he comes into contact with. Having been on his own, surviving on instinct and dumb luck, with only fantastical made up stories to accompany his thoughts. Though his inventive mind created more then just fantasies and he used his intelligence to get out of jams when he found himself in them. Eventually, he got into a jam with a gang of cats that he almost weaseled away from them, only one of the jerk's was smarter then Merton gave them credit for. He was spared by a silver tabby who convinced the gang they could use his intelligence to help them. So Merton became one of them. Though that was not entirely accurate. He was part of the gang but not 'one of them'.
Merton didn't care much about anyone in the gang, though he did hold a certain respect for Thomas. Thomas did spare his life and managed to leave him alone. Where as the rest of the gang would pick on him, bully him, beat him, and just overall bother him. He did his best to distance himself from them, and even contemplated leaving them, however, he had heard of the henches gaining numbers and power and surviving on his own was growing slimmer. He knew his best chances of staying alive, for that moment, were to stay with Thomas and his gang. While he was away from the gang one night, reading and tinkering with small trinkets he found in the street he ran into a silver burmese/tabby; Chaos.
Thomas had been nearby, and on instinct got Mertonout of the way and fought with Chaos. Merton ran and hid and saw Chaos use his 'poison' power on Thomas, before he stalked off. Merton had thought Thomas was dead or severely injured, but after a few moments Thomas began to move. Merton went over to him to thank him again, but Thomas was freaked out that he was still alive. Merton dropped his whole 'keep your distance' and decided to help Thomas. The two became much closer and Merton for the first time allowed himself to trust someone. It wasn't misplaced, for when one of the gang members started harassing him and beating on him, Tommy came to his rescue and stopped it.
Tommy visited Merton that night and told him they were leaving. Merton ran the statistics in his head and felt life on the streets with Tommy would be safer for both of them then staying in the gang. So he left with Tommy, but during their escape from the gang they got picked up by humans and taken to an animal testing facility. To Tommy's credit he tried to keep them together, but the humans eventually split them up. Merton remembered being hooked up to many tubes and remembered pain and the foul stench of other animals. But for the most part, he came up with some "sci-fi" fantasy and started blocking out yet another traumatic memory. Though, a group of Jellicles rescued him and Tommy, after he lost consciousness and Tommy and Merton are now recovering in the Jellicle Infirmary.
RP Sample: With jittery movements, Merton slunk through the blackened streets during the dark hours of night. Blowing his mane up and out of his eyes he grinned as he reached the tall steel fence of the cemetery. The air itself seemed more disturbing inside the sacred soil and Merton thrummed at the prospect.
Once he had crept inside, sniffing the air the black-ginger tom began to inspect the best place to sit down and wait for his next big breakthrough. There were a few noises in the distance that he attributed to human activity and dogs. There were a few spooky noises that Merton couldn't even guess what or where they came from. Yet, he somehow felt at home there.
That is, until Merton felt a definite presence lurking behind him. His dark blue eyes scanned the area as he cautiously looked around. What or who was out there? Not seeing anyone, he shrugged his shoulders and began on his way again. When a paw land on his shoulder, Merton let out a very shrill shriek. One that rivaled the best that a female kitten could scream.
With feeble movements, Merton began to flail about. "I don't know who you are, but I know all the top self defense moves, you'll be sorry that you messed with the great Merton-a-tor. I'll cut you dow-" At the pressure on his shoulder he began to squeak and his talking quickened. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Please don't kill me. There'd be no point." He naturally closed his eyes the minute he was spun around but he continued to ramble. The second he opened his eyes his mouth dropped open but his rambling seized.
Taking in a shuddering gasp, he finally caught his breath. "God Tommy, you scared one of my nine lives right out of me. What are you doing here? And how did you know I'd be here?"
Comments: Does rambling at the speed of light count as a super power? Haha, just kidding. He has no powers. But he does have the talent to ramble on and on.
