Name: Pumpkin
Gender: Female
Age: Kitten 6-8 weeks
Tribe: Jellicle
Tribe Position:
Family: Mother, Purreeta, missing, presumed deceased, Father unknown
Appearance: tiny-even for a young kitten. Undernourished. Coat is short & sleek- several shades of orange without any white or cream. Has 1 extra toe on each foot, Brilliant orange/gold eyes
Personality: Pumpkin is a fighter-though still very young. Even against tremendous odds, she will not give up or in. Like most kittens, she can be playful & curious-getting into things she probably shouldn’t. She is not shy, & thanks to tales told to her by her mother, she thinks the Jellicles are all wise & wonderful. Despite recent experiences, she is very trusting.
Describing word: courageous
History: Pumpkin doesn’t know it, but her mother had sexual congress with both a jellicle & a henchcat in the same heat cycle. Her mother never knew which one was the father of her kitten-particularly where her kitten looked more like her than anyone else-even down to the extra toe on each foot. Her mother worked outside in the neutral areas as a courtesan. Her mother had even bragged about having had relations with some very high up jellicles & henchcats, but no one ever believed her, so it is unclear if that was true. Despite her profession, Pumpkin’s mother, Purreeta was very innocent in some ways. She fell in love with every tom she’d ever been with & always believed in the good in people-telling her kitten wonderful tales of the jellicles & their nobility, particularly popular ones, like Tugger, Deuteronomy, Gus etc. Although Pumpkin inherited her mother’s romantic streak, it is tempered with a strong survival instinct.
One day, while Pumpkin was asleep in their den by the waterfront, her mother went out to fetch some food & never came back. Disconsolate, Pumpkin searched everywhere for her gentle, beautiful mother, but never found a trace of her. Alone & hungry she started stealing fish scraps & trash from the humans along the waterfront, vowing to continue her search. On one of her forays, Pumpkin heard two cats talking & gossiping about a fight at the “Jellicle Ball” (whatever that was) & making bets on which queens would end up with which toms. Carefully listening, she got a sense of where the “yard” was &-she decided to go over that way to see if her mother had ended up there & was hurt or sick.
RP sample: “Momma? Momma-where are you?” Sleepily, Pumpkin woke from her nap feeling a bit chilly. That was odd, where was Momma? Usually she was here when Pumpkin woke up. She sniffed the air questioningly, but only smelled the usual waterfront scents-trash, fish, human, water etc. Feeling some sharp hunger pangs, she nibbled on some dried bread Momma kept for those days when the weather was too bad to go out.
Pumpkin cautiously emerged from the cozy den to see if Momma was there or if she’d left a message-when momma had a “date” she would always leave a pretty pink rock in a certain spot, so Pumpkin wouldn’t worry or wander. “Hmmm. . .no rock, well maybe Momma forgot the rock this time.” Pumpkin squeezed back into her den. “Well I’ll wait a while to see if she comes back soon. “ After choking down some more of the dry bread & lapping a little water, Pumpkin went back to sleep. She awoke several hours later to a cold den & no Momma. Panicked she sat up-“momma’s never been gone this long! Where’s my Momma?” she whimpered.
