NAME: Jemima
GENDER: Female
AGE: Young Adult
TRIBE: Jellice
TRIBE POSITION: N/A
FAMILY: Old Deuteronomy (grandfather, pending) Macavity (father, pending) Demeter (mother, pending),
APPEARANCE: Jem has a reddish-brown coat and is generally viewed to be a white tortie mix, perhaps. She has scruffy, maroon ears and a white belly, with fluffy red shoulders and black/white markings on her arms, legs, and torso. Her collar is spiked, not unlike Demeter's, Tugger's, and Bombalurina's. Jemima's face is quite open, with bright eyes being her most noticeable feature. Her nose is small and lips medium-sized, her hair is a bit unkempt, sharp, and wild to juxtopose her soft features. She has midly broad shoulders and hips, still developing, with flexible limbs and body that can sustain long periods of constant, intense movement. She's a little clumsy at times when she gets too excited, and is often distracted by little interesting details (wrinkling blankets, twinkling lights, etc.) Her fur can get a little messy / ruffled because she is incredibly playful and active, not really caring how she looks.
HUMAN APPEARANCE: Mila Kunis
PERSONALITY: Jemima is quite kind and empathetic; compassion is key, she'll always try to relate to others no matter how closed off or rude they might appear. Of course, she does have her limits - a natural incline of disdain towards injustices and unkindness, due to her optimistic and hopeful personality. She often has trouble seeing things in shades of grey, yet she adores stories - the tales told by Gus the Theater Cat of Growltiger, the Fiend of Fell, etc. Jem's inquisitive, always asking questions, and is either praised for being curious or brushed off / chastised for, well, not minding her own business. She is often deeply empathetic to the point where if someone is hurt, she can barely rest until she figures out the situation for herself, and is often affected by both other people's losses and joys within the tribe. Jem is also quite poetic and sees things in a very romantical way, one that slowly wanes over the years as she becomes more and more exposed to the realities of life. She is incredibly sociable and friendly, communicating eagerly to every person she meets unless they show signs of disdain toward her.
As she grows and witnesses more pain within her community, her sense of relentless optimism and innocence falter, but her deeply empathetic and hopeful sense remain. In addition to those qualities, however, she is quite tough and resilient, firm in her beliefs and is known to be stubborn at times. Due to her lineage, she is quite wary of those who associate her with her father and rarely speaks of him, regarding him with disdain and hurt and mystery for being who he is, so opposite of what she tries to be. She fully supports her father's exile, perhaps the one cat in the world with whom her senses of compassion do not extent fully to. When she loves, she loves with all her heart and she simply adores her mother and can't forgive Macavity for hurting her the way that he did; he is the complete antithesis of everything she believes in and his existence hovers over her like a shadow she tries her best to ignore.
Back to her curiosity, she loves exploring and discovering new things, much to the dismay of her caretakers, and often disobeys certain rules/boundaries in place to pursue her own interest/inquiries, which could pose as a danger. She's incredibly playful and messy, at times, which leads to her slightly unkempt appearence. Despite her apparent navie/innocence, she is shown to have her empathy tied to wisdom, in connections to Old Deuteronomy and the twins Coricopat and Tantomile. More on that in history/comments. She is quite logical and understanding, always willing to give others advice and someone to talk to, and is counted on to be quite mature and clever at times despite her being young. Whatever Jem does, she does it with all her heart - whether it be kindness, understanding, love, or yes, hate. Her emotions are quite intense and feeling, while her love is devoted, loyal, and understanding, her disregard can be closed off, unfeeling and, at times, harsh. This emotion is usually reserved for her father and his henchman; Jem takes after her dad in her intensity of her emotions and skill, but tries her utmost to channel them in a good way and defy her relation. she posses a quiet resolve of immense strength and hope in the face of adversity, especially toward her loved ones. Due to being highly empathetic, she, on occasion, suffers bouts of depression / overload and takes time to rest a bit.
FAULTS: She's one of the stubbornest people in the tribe; once her mind or heart is set on something, there's nothing in the world that can persuade her otherwise - as evidenced by her behavior and inquiries toward Grizabella in the show. Jem can take things too seriously at times, she feels emotions deeply and although being quite forgiving and loving, she can be equally stressed or upset by the things that occur. She can also be a little irritating with her constant sense of curiosity and yearning. Jemima, especially in her late teen years, can be a bit of a rebel - although she is generally known as incredibly sweet, with good intentions, like I said she is incredibly stubborn and often defies direct orders to carry out her wishes and/or curiosities - but not without a bit of guilt. Due to her black-and-white stance on the world, she can be assuming of other people's positions and believes that all of Macavity's henchman, even any who have turned, emulate his qualities to the core; one of the reasons that she would be deeply distrusting of Mungojerrie, despite his status in the tribe, if/when she found out. As described before, Jemima does things with a passionate intensity, fueld by inherent sense and an enourmas heart. Most of this relies on her optimistic understanding and, if her spirit is broken, if faith everything she loves truly is gone, no doubt she'll turn into a colder, withdrawn, exhausted version of Macavity himself, when she's older.
DESCRIBING WORD: Kind.
HISTORY: Jemima was born to Demeter and Macavity at when her parents were incredibly young, Demeter deemed too young to raise her properly and Macavity banished when she was a kitten. Due to Demeter's age and her father's absence, Jemima was looked after by the likes of Skimbleshanks, Old Deuteronomy, Jennyanydots, etc. as well as befriending several others throughout the tribe. When she was young, some were wary of her due to her parentage. Her own attitude to her father was to simply loathe him quietly, in the back of her mind, thinking of him not so much as a father as a textbook villain. As a child, she enjoyed poetic songs and dances, becoming an accomplished, sweet singer herself. After hearing about her father's past, Jem resolved to show as much kindness and compassion as she could, to make up for the way some people regarded her, eager to help others forget of her relation to Macavity. At an early age, she developed a sense of deep compassion - although not as close to her biological mother as other kittens were to there's, due to her upbringing, whenever Demeter displays bouts of depression or paranoia, it affects her behavior and thinking. Because of the optimistic nature of her caretakers, she soon became a radiant, hopeful personality herself and did her best to make others happy.
She is friends with Victoria, despite their polar personalities, because Jem finds her to be beautiful inside and out, in her own way, and enjoys her talkative personality - but often tries to derail her from upsetting her uncle, without much success. As a kitten, she always preferred singing to dancing as she didn't believe herself elegant enough to dance as well as Victoria did, but enjoyed expressing with her own voice and connecting with others. Jemima was always seen to be level headed and mature among the other kittens, becoming a resident 'helper' around, assisting Jennyanydots with her knitting and helping guide Gus around, at times. Knowing the nature of her uncle, Munkstrap's, work, she knew she couldn't quite help him, but admired him dearly for his sense of protectiveness and love for the tribe, which inspired her greatly as a child. Generally, Jemima has tried to pursue a relationship with every cat in the tribe, some closer then others due to personal and familial bonds. Some cats she trusts and is friends with include Victoria, Electra, Plato, the Rum Tum Tugger, Alonzo, Coricopat/Tantomile, and Mistofelees.
Her highly inquisitive nature poses danger though; once, when trying to get a glimpse of a Pollice in the park after hearing the song for the first time, she suffered a scratch on her upper back as well as a fierce chastising from Jenny, Munkustrap, and even Victoria. The one thing she does not pry upon is the subject of her father, she believes she knows all she needs to know about his character and would gladly fight against him alongside the tribe. When she gets older, curiosity does peek at her, but the subject mostly drains her of her energy as she secretly believes one of the reasons her mother didn't raise her alone was because she reminded her of him. Growing up, walking around the park, she is always the first to help a cat find the rubbish bin to eat from, or a cardboard box to sleep in - to no end she argues with Skimbleshanks to let a stray stay on the train, even just for a few days. She believes everyone deserves forgiveness, as long as they aren't as bad as Macavity.
When the Jellice Ball occured, Jemima sense of empathy expanded towards Grizabella in a way she hadn't felt before; with the assistance of Old Deuteronomy's connection she manages to help the tribe re-accept Grizabella. Again, as a compassion person, she sympathizes with her situation deeply and goes to lengths to help her rejoin the tribe before being sent to the Heaviside Layer. After the ball, she tries to resume her life with this highly-sensitive vein of empathy and sensory perception, along with the weight of Grizabella's past she continues to muse on.
RP SAMPLE. Jemima sat upon the tire in the light of the moon, discreetly licking at a scratch sustained from wiggling in underneath the fence to see what was underneath the refrigerator box - turns out, just a really angry squirrel. She hummed a sweet tune and leaned her back against the wooden plank, absorbing the atmosphere with her head listed to one side, feeling the coolness of twilight beneath her fur. " Sunset really is beautiful. All those colors, melt into the night. " She clambered back down to the base of the boot, pressing her head against the platform as she flicked a stray bundle of leaves out of her path. All of a sudden, a crash came from the litter of junk behind her and her ears immediately perked up in alert. " Hello ? "
Her voice rang clear and sharp throughout the night, knowing it could summon one of the other Jellicles if she had to. " Who's there? " doe-eyes squint to make out a figure within the shadows. " Pouncival, is that you? " A knowing grin flashes upon her face before she hesitates from a moment, sensing a stranger. " Who are you? " Again, her head tilts to one side cautiously, her paw discreetly sheathing its claws as she pulls back, eyes flashing with warning.
COMMENTS. While not as mystic as Macavity nor Tantomile, perhaps, due to being born on the night of the full Jellicle moon and having the father she has, she possess what some would call clairvoyance, what others could name as a good gut instinct and knack for compassion. Whatever the explanation, she possess a heightened sense of emotion that allows her to connect with others deeply and see the true nature of their own selves. This has its issues though, it often drains her of energy - especially if someone else is simply lacking emotion around her, it causes her to become depressed as well. She can also go into possible emotional overload - where so many senses hit at once its physically overwhelming. But most of the time, she keeps it at bay and uses it to give advice and form bonds with others - it's not something that can protect her physically or mentally, only a sense, a 'feeling', that helps her unite with the rest of the tribe.
