Felt the urge to create this thread to see if anyone else likes Starlight Express, a.k.a. "CATS But With Trains." Going through another obsession and hoped someone might like to chat about this fabulous show. If not, that's ok...I will simply delete this thread and crawl awkwardly back to the roundhouse...

Uh-oh... XD Where to begin... It is another brilliant Andrew Lloyd Webber show (though folk tend to dislike it for similar reasons to those for disliking CATS - "not enough plot."). It has a *slightly* more "traditional" plot than CATS. I think it's somewhat changed and altered over the years, but the basic gist is, a little boy is playing with his train set before bed, then falls asleep and has a dream about the trains coming to life. So the rest of the show centers around these trains (anthrotrains...like I said, think CATS but with them dressed as trains instead XD), who are all trying to win the Big Race (instead of going to the Heaviside Layer XD). There's one train, Rusty, who's a steam engine, and the other, more modern trains, think Rusty and the likes of him are outdated and useless, so most of the trains shun him/don't take him seriously.
Sadly, it's no longer playing anywhere but Germany. I mean, I'd be all for a field trip to Germany if I actually had the money, but...
So anyway. I'll try to find some pictures/YouTube footage to post. It really is a somewhat bizarre but cool show. And the MUSIC...

... If you wish to think of it that way. XD All right, it's difficult to find clips in English because it's been only in Germany for years XD But I found a Las Vegas production...it may be the entire thing, actually. Here's Part I, and the others pop up as you watch. Disclaimer, I haven't actually watched this one yet so it may not be good quality XD www.youtube.com/watch?v=GctJqb1K9Aw

Searching for decent clips of songs, I came across this one. "One Rock 'n' Roll Too Many" used to be that-one-song-on-the-cast-album-that-is-boring-so-you-skip-it-every-time, but now it's become one of my absolute favourites...not even sure why, except that it's catchy and clever. The lyrics changed over time, and I prefer the originals, but this is a somewhat decent video and these kids actually did a pretty good job! I tend to stay away from youth productions, because uh, if you've ever looked up one of CATS, well... But they did a good job here! www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-7pzLicxr8

For the first time EVER I just found footage of my absolute favourite song in the show, "CB." Not the best quality (it's almost twenty years old), and the vocal performance on the cast album is better (but then, that tends to be the case with a studio recording vs a live performance). But SO cool to finally see the choreography! www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsYHHfOwVCU CB the Red Caboose is my favourite character in the show. Yes, he's a sneaky little troublemaker. But he is adorable. The "New London" version was stupid and cut the character. Broadway was smart and put him back in. The show is completely dull without him.
