the tall curvy red queen was almost bouncing with the tension. 'if, IF the Toms pull this it will be so, SO great! but if not....then all their work, getting the dens livable clean, gathering together bedding and Stubby and Haversham ferrying all that extra food from the pub all of that effort would be wasted.' Bombalurina thought. she she glanced about at the others who had gathered to wait for the rescue party, the old codgers Stubinz with his fiddle and Haversham with that big thermos of his along with the others, and felt a warm glow.
Stubinz rosined bow of his fiddle with surprising dexterity considering his missing toes on his left front paw, he shot a glance to the empty space on his left and said "ah be quite 'taint polite!" then he shrugged at Haversham's questioning look, "Buttercup likes tha way that our fair Bombshell fidgets."
"well she is eye catching at that," the pudgy gray tom replied, "so are you going to play that thing or just fiddle wiht it?" Haversham added, with a chuckle the battered old tom began a rendition of 'the Cup of tea'

The tabby queen made her way back into the Junkyard, footpaws dragging with exhaustion. Apart from her "distraction," which seemed to have done its work, there had not been much else for Rumpelteazer to do but hope Munkustrap and Grumbuskin were able to get the captive cats out. Once she had assured herself that they were successful, she had muttered something to the others and slipped away on her own. She told herself she was going ahead to the 'yard to let the others know of the plan's success and to help prepare for the rescuees' and rescuers' arrival. But the truth was, she had wanted to escape before seeing any of the rescued prisoners. The idea of seeing what sorts of states they might be in filled her with dread.
Teazer rather hoped to be able to slip off to her own den unnoticed, to recover a bit before speaking to anyone, but almost as soon as she arrived, she came across Bomba, Stubinz, and Haversham, with really no way to evade them. So instead, she went up to the scarlet queen and sat down near her. "'Lo, Bomba," she said wearily.

"lo your self sweets," Bomba said then she gave Teazer a friendly rub as Haversham came over with cup of water and a bit of batter fried fish that he offered to Teazer. "so dish," the scarlet queen said as she began groom the multi colored tabby queen. "did the silver back boyscout and his swashbuckling shadow pull it off?"
"easy now Red, let tha sweet young thang catch her breath a mite!" Stubinz called setting down his fiddle and bow.

Rumpel closed her eyes for a moment when Bombalurina began asking questions. This was what she had rather dreaded, though to be sure it was still better than sticking around to see what states of mental and physical injury the rescued queens would be in when they first escaped. With that thought, she opened her eyes again, determined to answer questions as she should. She was momentarily distracted, however, by catching a whiff of something tasty. "Fish...?" she mumbled, tongue hanging out. She'd forgot how famished she was until this moment! Gratefully, she accepted the food and water Haversham held out to her. Forcing herself to take one bite at a time, rather than scarfing the whole thing in two seconds as she'd have liked, she turned back to Bomba. "They did it," she nodded between bites. "I tried to create enough of a stir to buy Munk an' Grumbus time t' nip in an' get the prisoners out. Last I saw every'un's about to 'ead back 'ere an' figure out who needs medical atten-shun, who jus' needs food an' rest, an' so on." Her ears drooped rather guiltily at the thought of not having stayed on to help, but she went on quickly, "Figgered I'd get 'ere first an' see wot needs doin' to prepare fer their arrival." Hopefully Bomba would accept that explanation and not dig into Teazer's personal reasons for leaving ahead of the others.

Bomba stuck her tongue out at Stubby then went back to grooming Teazer, gently washing her ear with precise delacite licks. Haversham and Stubinz eased in to share their warmth and comfort the Tabby queen.
the pudgy gray tom gave Teazer a friendly rub, "rest now, you did the right thing to bring the news, and you have done the Tribe proud!" he said.
Bomba paused and added, "and we've been busy here too! we have Dens cleaned up and ready from the old Juke box across from 'Shams den over there to the old washing machine right around the corner from Mine! we've gathered plenty of bedding stuff and the Gents here have made sure that there is plenty of food as well!"
"Stubinz nodded "aye, tha only rub is that Neither Dame Jenny nor Goody Jell have been able ta get away from thayre humans, so if any of our newcomers need tendin ta thay twill have deal with bein tended by nurse Goodbody here an meself!" he said. "a cousrs ya know what thay say, ifin ya are hurt sore look ta tha one with tha most scars!" he added holding up his left paw and waggeled the three toes that remained.

Between the delicious food and Bomba's grooming her ears for her, Teazer began to feel much easier and more herself. Instinctively, she sat up a bit straighter - no need to grow too comfy and accidentally drift off to sleep while her fellow tribe-members spoke to her; how rude would that be?!
She blushed, somewhat embarrassed, when Stubinz spoke of her 'doing the Tribe proud.' "Aww, twas nothin' really, Munk an' Grumb did most of..." She trailed off and snatched at the chance of a new topic when Bomba spoke of the work they'd been doing here in the meanwhile. "That's wondahful, Bomb'," Rumpel beamed. "Oi know they'll be so grateful!" Then the toms mentioned Jenny and Jelly's absence, which reminded her of the medical side of things again.
Even though, as a burglar, she'd been in a number of untoward situations before, she'd mainly managed to escape situations in which she or another feline ended up seriously hurt. So, she'd never really thought about it until the most recent Ball, when of course some of the Jellicles had got themselves badly scratched up while fighting Macavity. Then she had noticed that injuries and such really did not sit very well with her, though she concealed it as best she could for fear of ridicule. Now there would be injured felines - and Jenny and Jelly gone, which would mean as much help as possible would be needed...
"We'll...er, all pitch in, o' course," she mumbled with feigned nonchalance, looking away from the tom's paw and trying not to imagine how he'd lost the toes. "I, er, know nothin' of mendin'...ah...wounds...but...maybe fetch bandages an' the like?"

Bomba gave Teazer a friendly rub, "any little bit will be a big help!" she said.
Haversham tilted his head to one side, "though truth be told those who are not injured will be needing tending as well! after all they'll be need to reassuring that we don't mean take advantage of them to be sure!"
Stubinz nodded and said "an commin from a queen may well hold more water!"

The sound of fiddle music had caught Trent's attention as he slipped in one of the side entrances to the Yard. Or at least he assumed it was a fiddle or some other similar stringed instrument - he'd never really heard one before. But music usually meant that something was happening, and it was likely something to actually catch his attention or interest. The multiple voices reached the brown tabby's ears before he actually saw the cats who were set up, apparently waiting for rescued cats. That did sound familiar.
"Just try not to smother them with affection, might scare them off." Trent commented as he came into view, lips quirked up into a half grin. Honestly, it'd thrown the tabby for a loop when he joined the tribe, and that was after he'd gotten used to human attention and affection. He lazily settled himself near the others, easily half sprawling as he got comfortable and settled in to see the upcoming and anticipated arrival of the rescued cats.

Teazer nodded eagerly as the toms mentioned helping the uninjured ones. Yes, she liked the sound of that much better. True, it might be a bit odd feeling at first, what with them being strangers and all, but she'd take a bit of awkwardness over looking at injuries any day. "Sure thing, I'll make sure they knows every'un here is the kindest of folk, an' means them no 'arm..." Her ears flicked round at the sound of another cat approaching. "Hullo, Trent," she greeted the tom as soon as she recognized who it was. She frowned slightly when he mentioned "not smothering them with affection." "Oi, wot d'ye mean by that?" Teazer asked in a tone of mock indignation. "We'd nevah 'smother' any'un with affection..." She trailed off, remembering that she and Bomba were so companionably cuddled up. It was something Teazer'd become used to in the Junkyard - not that she was starved for that sort of affection, but just that it was nice to have a big family that one could talk with or cuddle up with for comfort or whatever the situation called for. But she supposed somefolk were more standoffish and might indeed be frightened off if immediately greeted with a friendly hug or lick or some such notion. She couldn't help but be amused by the thought. "All righ'," she giggled, "we'll try not t' overwhelm the new friends."

"for some reason I rarely have that reaction Stud!" Bomba said with a swish of her tail and a wink of a big gold green eye. "ah Tren me ladd, would you like some Fish?" Haversham said offering a batter covered morsel to the brown tom. "we have water as well, nothing stronger though, some thought that would be in appropriate!" he added glancing at Stubinz who was picking up his fiddle and bow. " he wanted to bring Guinnsse, and I just thought that might be a wee much!" the battered old tom said then he glanced to an empty spot to his right. "all right Maryann ifin that's what it shall be!" he said as he began to play a haunting tune. youtu.be/DqeDRst35mg

Trent nodded in greeting as he made himself comfortable. "I'm fine, save it for the rescued." At last that's what he assumed the fish was originally gathered for. He wasn't hungry and he had a stable food source from his humans anytime he wanted. Though he good naturedly rolled his eyes at the other cats and their protests of smothering with affection. The shelter he grew up in wasn't a particularly friendly one - it had been overcrowded and under supplied, which meant it wasn't the friendliest of places to grow up. He imagined if the rumours were true that neither was the site these cats were coming from. "If what we heard is true they probably haven't grown up with affectionate touches. It sounds like a nasty place, so ..." He trailed off with a shrug. Figuring they may either be touch starved and welcome the affection or absolutely hate it and be freaked out. "Though I don't think there's any chance of scaring them off with food." He winked.

Rumpel glanced rather guiltily down at her piece of fish when Trent said to save it for the rescued. Why hadn't she thought of that...? After deliberating a moment, she decided that she'd need the strength if she was to be of any help with the rescuees. With that cheering thought, she popped the last bite into her mouth and finished it off. "Well then, p'raps we give 'em food first, an' slowly watch 'em and figger out their levels of need so far as affection an' such goes," she commented, nodding at Trent. She wasn't exactly expert at reading others' emotions, but it sounded like the sensible sort of thing that Old Deuteronomy would say. "Stub's right, Hav'sham," she added. "Never tasted Guinness meself, but have raided one or two 'ouses where there was lots of it. Wherever tha' scent is, there're 'umans actin' like crazed Pollicles. Not the sorta environment fer hurt an' sad cats, eh?" She tried to think of just how 'hurt and sad' they would be, but couldn't even imagine. The idea of cats being locked up in such a place, with perhaps scarier things than even Macavity and his henchmen were to the Jellicles? It sounded too awful to think of.

the old gave Trent a friendly bump, "tis true food shouldn't frighten them but HIS playing might!" Haversham sa jerking a thumb back at Stubinz.
Bombalua nodded and gave Teazer a rub, "that's good thinking Teaz!" she said then she gave Haversham a smokey look "AND she has a point about your Human black brew!" added.
Hersham looked comicly stricken, "now there is nothing wrong with a good stout it happens to be one of the few things that Humans right! moderation, moderation that's the key!" Haversham replied to the lovely scarlet queen.
Stubinz layed down his fiddle and bow with a wink, and fell into a discussion with....thin air. na Ah donna kno how many, and ya thare tricks mind or Ah willna lk ta ya fer a week! yes Maryann is exiting!" then he turned his attention to his Tribe mates. "an yes Teazer ma sweet Ah have seen tha behavior down at tha pub! an it cost me some of these scars it did! most nights taint that bad though an while 'Sham do have a point thare tis na a fit intraduion ta tha Tribe!"

Rytt ran a paw through his wavy locks as he slowly rolled out of bed. The faint ethereal tune of music had crept into his den and had woken him up. His back ached from the position he had fallen asleep in all night. Stretching to relieve the pressure, Rytt groomed himself enough to look decent, but it was never perfect. He knew Stubinz' playing and while he wasn't as close with him as he was with Deuteronomy and Gus, he was still curious to find out what the tom was up to. By the time he got closer to the front gates, the playing had stopped and Rytt could hear the chatting of a group and could smell many gathered around the next corner. He did peek his head around and was loathe to see so many cats gathered in one spot.
He personally didn't like to be around so many, not so early in the morning, but knowing one of them was bound to see him or scent that he had been by, he figured he'd make a brief appearance. Enough to see what was going on. So he placed the smile on his face, the one that never seemed to reach his eyes; but he was a good actor and knew no one would be the wiser. Strolling in he cocked his head to the side. "So who was the one that forgot my invitation to this party?" He announced as he got closer to the group. Looking over to Stubby he shook his head slightly with an exasperated smile. "Still talking to your spooks there?" Rytt had never really believed in the toms mystic abilities. However, he had learned to accept him for his eccentricities awhile ago.

Trent grinned, "Bombalurina's right, it's a smart idea Teaze. Provided the playing doesn't scare them first." He commented honestly. Food would probably show the cats better that they were trying to help, and it did smell good. He also figured it having a calmer presence may help, as he'd been told numerous times by both his mother and his humans that he had an odd calming effect on others - that because so little seemed to ruffle his feathers sometimes others fed off that and were put at ease.
The brown tabby snorted at their comments over beer of all things. "Black brew? You make it sound like some horrible dark concoction to be wary of." He teased the red queen. He probably would have said something else snarky if he hadn't been distracted by Stubinz talking to air and by Rytt appearing. Trent turned his head to grin at the older tom, "Probably the same place mine was forgotten." he quipped with a wink.
