Trent's head tilted and his gaze turned a little far off as some of his headfur fell into his face - not that he paid any attention to it. The tabby wasn't familiar with who or what the 'Good Folk' were, the term rather foreign to him. Maybe because he hadn't grown up here? Combined with the notion of an offering possibly doing some good definitely had his interest peaked. Besides it seemed like a more interesting conversation than the current one was turning out to be - worrying and speculating about the third negative occurrence and worrying over the rescue missions. There was nothing to be done on their end, fretting would not help so why bother with the boring waste of energy? "The Good Folk?" Trent asked, his gaze once again focusing on Haversham and with interest now apparent in his expression since he decided he did in fact want to know about them.

Tantomile was taking a walk of the junkyard, deeply in thought after her longer talk with her father. she was still troubled by what she had learned in the unnamed one's lair and the fate of the Lady Jellylorum and the injury of her younger brother. During the walk she noticed the two Jellicles in their conversation and in her quiet way she stopped and listened to them, still standing in the shadows. When she heard the question about the "Good folk", she took a step out of the shade towards then and said in her quiet voice.
"To the humans and others who believe the good folk are also called the fair folk, the elves and fairies benevolent to other creatures."
((Sorry it took me so long to join, I hope the invitation still stands))

the old gray tom's heart lifted at the sound of the sleek queens voice, "exactly! and an offering left in the right spot might gain a favor or convince them not to misbehave!" Haversham said. then he ran a paw over his head to smooth the short fur between his rounded ears, "I am glad to see that you have returned safely," he said. "Trent, if you have not met her previously this dusky vision is Tantomile. dear Lady this raffish young fellow is one of our newer members, Trent."

Oh other worldly creatures. Now that could really be intriguing. Benevolent? An entire race if benevolent creatures; now that was the superstition. Although benevolence could be variable depending on perspective. Interesting concept, different creatures with different moralities and ideas of benevolence. And now he was getting off topic and a little too zone out. With a slightly owlish blink, Trent refocused enough to actually hear Haversham's comments.
It was the older tom's last comment that drew a laugh from Trent. He wasn't new. He just spent a large amount of time with his humans. A grin on his lips, the brown tabby shook his head. "Not quite. I've been with the tribe for some time, just apparently I'm not ostentatious enough here." His entire disposition remained completely unruffled by being mistaken for being new. Trent remained as unaffected as he normally was.

Tantomile gently inclined her head towards Haversham with a small smile.
"I thank you, tribe-brother for your wishes. Yes, I had the opportunity to return unscathed, while my younger brother didn't have the same fortune. Also was our journey clouded by further misfortune. The Lady Jellylorum seems to be a forced member of the Unnamed Ones lair for the while as is the magician Mistofelees."
Then she turned her attention towards Trent.
"Still, young triber brother, I didn't have the opportunity to meet you before. Welcome to the Jellicles of the junkyard. I hope your stay with us will benefit you and us all."

the older gray tom shook his head, "well enough my Boy, while I have been a member of the Tribe for a verrrrry long I only have moved into the Yard myself." he said with a grin. then he recapped the thermos and shifted to be sure that there was room for the svelte queen if she wished to join them. "the lad came along when I was singing the greeting of the Moon. thought that some of the Old Ways might help you know?"

Trent cocked his head intently as he listened to Tantomile's way of speaking. It was a cadence that he'd never heard before and almost felt out of place but something about her presence kept it from feeling too foreign. Intriguing effect. The brown tabby nodded, a relaxed smile in response to her well wishing. "Pleasure to meet you as well."
Seeing Haversham's movement, Trent easily figured out the thinking behind it and shifted slightly so he didn't take up quite as much space. "Come sit, looks like you could use the rest." He easily observed unease on the queen, used to picking up on minute details from his mother and humans.

Tantomile gave both of the toms a small smile and readily moved into the space they made for her.
"Thank you, tribe-brothers."
Then her gaze turned far away, also up to the moon. It seems as she was holding a silent conversation with the satellite or someone only she could see, before she said in her smokey whisper.
"With the recent changes, it is well to keep the old ways alive. They can still provide a base for the good things in our lives and teach us what is important and what of no consequence except the immediate moment..."

the pudgy gray tom smiled fondly, "perhaps we should pass a bit along to the lad? now you'dev heard of The Great Cat and the Lady Bastet hmmm? well they are far from alone, in the homeland of my Mother there was Irusan as well. he was said to be the King of their cats and a great beastie he was easily the size of a pony! his mate was Spit-Fire and they had three children, a daughter and two sons, they were Sharptooth, The Purrer and The Growler." Haversham said. "and with some of the things our mystics have done who is to say that long ago they were not hmmm?"

While Trent had been on this side of the hemisphere for a couple years, after the move he'd adjusted rather quickly and for the first time since then he actually felt like foreign presence. He'd never heard of the 'old ways' or what felt like the beginning of mythic stories from Haversham. They almost sounded like the myths his humans were fond of.
The tom shrugged, after all who was to say these old ways worked, or didn't? "Stories don't always work in bringing comfort or teachings. Sometimes experience works best."

Tantomile laid her head to the side with a mysterious smile on her muzzle as she listened to both of them.
"Not all teachings are to bring comfort, but to avoid what was told themselves. To spare the listener the bitter experience and sometimes death the story might unfold."
She took a long glance in silence at young Trent.
"True experience can be valuable, but don't you think some experience should be avoided? Don't you believe that a true story could teach you exactly that?"

the old gray tom chuckled, "and who is to say that the tales may not be true? there is a saying about the Humans of old Ireland, that over time and telling the Gods shrunk until they became the fairies while the Heroes grew until they became giants, do you not think the same not be the way with our Mystics and Heroes as well?" Haversham said with a wink.

Trent took time to think about Tantomile's and Haversham's questions, a pensive expression taking over his face for a moment or two. With a shrug the expression disappeared. "The stories will fall on deaf ears if a cat is too stubborn to listen to normal advice. If they don't listen to an overt warning that something they're doing is stupid, they won't listen to a story either. Sometimes experience is the best teacher." He commented. From his time in the shelter before being adopted in America, there were a lot of cats like that. Too full of themselves or too stubborn to listen to advice - they only learned when their stupidity backhanded them into some humility. Which didn't always last. "And all stories are forgotten eventually."
