Name: Tango
Gender: Male
Age: Adult mid-late twenties
Tribe: Jellicle
Tribe Position:
Family: Sister, Tabitha (neither knows)
Appearance: Pure black with a medium length, sleek coat. Long plumed tail. Unusual orange eyes. Medium in size, he has the toned athletic body of an acrobat &.is much stronger than he looks.
Personality: A bit skittish & shy with humans, he will take his time sizing up the people he meets, but he is very loyal to his friends. He is idealistic & a bit of a romantic. He loves to dance & show off for the ladies. Also highly curious-he will often stick his nose into situations where it doesn’t belong. Due to his background, he has a bit of a white knight syndrome & a weakness for a damsel in distress, but he will stand up for anyone whom he feels is being bullied.
Faults: His loyalty can cause him to be overly idealistic sometimes, making him ignore people’s faults. If someone challenges him, he gets very short tempered & stubborn when he feels he is in the right. Often, he will not admit to mistakes if he can help it.
Describing word: Idealistic
History: As a kitten, Tango was abandoned when an illegal breeding mill was shut down. Born in a cage, he never knew his sister as they were separated at birth. Growing up on the streets, he bonded with other male strays like himself. They formed a family of sorts. Rough & ready, they took on all comers & often acted as vigilantes either on a whim or if they saw someone in trouble. As he grew up, the group often changed as the others either struck out on their own, joined the Paw, or disappeared into the human world via the white trucks.
A sojourn living in a public library introduced the young cat to classic literature in the form of a young human female, who snuck him food & would read to him from classic works like Robin Hood & Tales of Sinbad the Sailor. Loving the idea of the human heroes, Tango tried to recreate the idealistic images from the stories he would hear-with mixed results. Most of the cats he lived with preferred the idea of survival to idealistic claptrap, but they would humor him most of the time.
Then things went horribly wrong. Tango’s young human discovered his gang & started visiting them to bring them food. Quiet & rather dreamy, she didn’t have much street experience. Tango had noticed that she didn’t seem to have any human friends & if she had family, he’d never seen them with her. Obviously lonely, she’d stay in the alley with them after the library closed lavishing him with the loving attention Tango craved.
Then one day the human gang showed up. High on some human chemical, they attacked her-before Tango’s horrified eyes they raped, & stabbed her. All his attempts to help her failed. He yowled for help & some came in the form of a uniformed human with a whistle. The gang was driven off & the human girl whisked away. Tango never saw her again & has no idea what happened to her-or if she even survived.
Before now, he’d never minded the occasional nip or alcoholic drink, but after that night, he refused to touch it again. He fled the area after beating a ‘friend’ almost to death at the casual remark. “well at least it was only a human.”
Heartsore & looking for his human, he found the junkyard & old Deuteronomy. He credits Old D with saving his soul & giving him a new purpose in life as a Jellicle. He will still occasionally go out searching for his human friend.
RP Sample: Tango woke drenched in sweat-he'd had the nightmare again. It started as a sweet memory of his human reading to him-then devolved into screams, vicious wet sounds, hard bright lights all overlaid with the sickening smell of blood.
Tango got up & paced restlessly.
Ever since he'd lost his human, he couldn't sleep, he couldn't hunt or eat. He had no friends anymore. He'd lost so much weight-he was down to skin & bones.
He went again to the alley where the attack had happened-searching the litter & debris for something-anything. In despair, he laid down in the spot where she had lain. He felt so weak & alone. Maybe it as better to just give up. He closed his eyes. Then he felt something-something warm & loving. He opened his eyes looking wildly for his human-he'd only felt this way before when she was near, but she wasn't there. Confused, he sat up, then he noticed a very large, fluffy tomcat, just sitting & watching him patiently. The warm feeling was coming from him!
"Who. .are you?" the young cat faltered.
The majestic old cat smiled, "I am Deuteronomy my son. . ."
Comments: Has plenty of street smarts, plus street fighting skills. Has contacts & friends both on the streets & with the lower level Henches.
