Jemi sighed. Her romantic heart lifting a little at the sight of her two friends & the loving way they looked at each other. Then her eyes widened when she saw an almost identical look iin the eyes of the rugged stranger & Aunt Jenny?? When the cat had that happened? Why hadn't she known that Aunt Jenny had a male courting her? It was nice to see such love even if it made her feel a little lonely. She smiled at Gus & Anna, speaking softly so as not to wake Krystalle. "All right, I am going to my den now. Please let me know if Tugger or the others come back." The small queen turned to leave, she desperately needed s few hours nap before she did anything. It wouldn't help anyone if she got captured too,
Anna nodded at the small queen. "All right kitten. you git some sleep." Then the older cat tucked Krystalle in more securely & turned to make some lunch. "C'mon old man, you kin help me wid dinner," she said to Gus cheerfully, as she started to bustle around. "Ya kin entertain me iffen ya would be so kind. It'll keep us both occupied."

the old tom nodded sadly, "and to be quite honest to be occupied is what I need at the nonce. Jellylorum would not have been wheare she could have been waylaid if I had not made that revalation to her.and now she is in the clutches of those churlish beef witted clotpoles and all I can do is rant, rave, all to the effect of nothing!" he said in a broken voice his paws spasaming.

At his self-pitying tone, Anna rolled her eyes & thumped the old cat on the back of the head. "Dat's enough of dat." she scolded firmly. "You ain't responsible fer everything dat happened an you should know dat. Did you screw up wid Jelly? Knowing you, probably, I don' know cause I don' know what you did, but you ain't resonsible fer her actions, nor tha actions of the jerks dat snatched her an took her to Maccie's place." She rounded on him, her eyes kind, but her voice full of ire. "An da las' ting we needs here is you feelin' sorry fer yerself. Got it?" Given his self-centered dramatic bent, she figured he was gearing up for a role as King Lear or something & wanted to head it off as she could. Mischievously, she passed him a bowl of vegetables & a peeler, "Now git ta work or ya don' eat." She said. "It's either peel, or wash dishes yer choice."

the old tom winced at the thump and Anna's words but gave no other reply as he took the bowl and the peeler. and with quiet injured dignity he attempted to peel the vegetables with his palsying paws without making a mess or injuring himself with limited success. "if you say so." he said in a sad voice.

Anna tried to be patient with the old cat. He was right--but only to a point. If he was the cause of Lady Jelly's absence, then he was a part of the chain of events, but only a part. No matter what he thought, he had no control over Jelly's decisions or the decisions of the cats who had taken her. Getting him to see that & or admit it. . now that would be a rough chore. She began stoking the fire & keeping a surepticious eye on his work. She didn't want him to hurt himself after all. She noted with a return of her usual humor, that he handled the chore like someone who found it distastful & did as poor a job as possible so no one would ask him to do it again. Too bad. Anna wasn't easily discouraged. She firmly believed in the therapeutic benefit of a little work. Trying not to smirk, she left him to that as she hauled water & prepared the day's tea & soup. "Try ta leave some vegetable along wid tha peelings." she advised dryly.

the old tan tom sighed, "that would be easier if my paws did not shake so," he said in an even dignified tone. "but then there are many things that I would be able to better if that was the case." he gave her a tired smile "but that comes with time dose it not?"
meanwhile outside..... the mangled tan and brindle old tom limped off still muttering to his unseen companions. ((EXIT Stubinz stage left)

Anna gave him a quiet look, then held up her mangled front paw. "Sometimes." she agreed. "Other times dere are other reasons. Tha trick I've found is ta not let yer limitations become an excuse not ta try somethin. Iffen it don' work doin' it one way. look fer another before declarin ya can't do somethin'." Then the older female took the veggies he had finished without further comment & washed them & started the soup. Unbidden, she brought Gus Sr another cup of fresh tea, before throwing the ingrediants for biscuits together.

the old tom chuckled, "now where have I heard that before..." he said with an innocent smile, knowing full well that HE had said the same thing many times to his stage crews and preformers! "and I am simply acknowledgeing that if I atempted to rescue her from that den of inequity all I would acomoplish is making things worse!" he said in a dignified tone. then he took the tea with a smile, a smile that broadened as he sipped "oh you do have such a way with tea!"

Anna gave the old flirt a dry look. "Don't ya try any of yer wiles on me old man. I'm immune." she said with a snort. She did like the old tom, but felt he was far too used to getting his own way for her taste, besides, she had a lamentable tendency for liking wild toms--like the bravos or even some of the henches. Anna was still thinking about the troubles going on though & wondering how she could help. "Hmm. . hey Gus, kin ya keeps an eye on stuff here until Jenny gits back? Things're pretty quiet fer now anyways & tha soup'll be ready in a bit. It don't need much more'n an occasional stir. There's a cat who might be able ta help, I jist gotta find 'im." The older female checked on Krystalle & noted she seemed to be still sleeping. Poor baby, she needed the rest. With that scant warning, the irrepressible queen headed out the door, leaving gus in charge of the infirmary. ((EXIT ANNA))

the old tom shook his head at Anna's sudden departure. then he limped over to the pot and sniffed at the soup. with great care he took the spoon and gave it a stir. then he sighed looking at the dens entrance and softly intoned"Farewell the tranquil mind; farewell content!Farewell the plumed troop and the big wars That make ambition virtue!" he simply had to believe that Jellylorum knew what she was doing, he only hoped that he would be there to see her come home safely.

Krystalle whimpered in her sleep, pulling the blanket closer and buried her head in her pillow. The image of the dark Tom that had recently been in the den was still plaguing her. Morphing into a much darker creature from her past. She told her mind blank, blank, trying to make the blackness disappear. But it only faded in and out.
(yea, sorry ive been so quiet)

after stirring the soup, the old tom moved to the foot of the injured queens pallet and softly began to croon a lullaby. he hope in some small way to ease her troubled rest. "A gentle breeze from Hushabye Mountain Softly blows o'er lullaby bay. It fills the sails of boats that are waiting-- Waiting to sail your worries away. It isn't far to Hushabye Mountain And your boat waits down by the quay. The winds of night so softly are sighing-- Soon they will fly your troubles to sea. So close your eyes on Hushabye Mountain. Wave good-bye to cares of the day. And watch your boat from Hushabye Mountain Sail far away from lullaby bay. "

Jenny more or less stormed into the healer den. Her face showed a storm cloud, that showed clearly that something had happened not according to "plan", since she had only left to a lover's stroll just a little time ago. Her facial fur still showed the traces of tears. She walked straight towards her workbench, not looking left or right, more or less ignoring the other Jellicles in the den. At her workbench, she stood ridgy, her gaze wandering over it, as if she wants to do something and can't find anything to do...
